Mechanical Commissioning Engineer - Data Centres

About the opportunity

Chandler Macleod is partnering with a leading global engineering and design consultancy to find a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer for their growing Melbourne commissioning team. You’ll work on complex projects like data centres, healthcare facilities and other critical infrastructure, and you’ll be backed by an international network of commissioning specialists.

We’re after someone who’s comfortable running their own work on site, can hold their ground with contractors and vendors, and enjoys working through a hard technical problem.

What the role involves

- Delivering commissioning from early planning through testing, integrated systems testing and handover
- Writing and reviewing Commissioning Management Plans, test procedures and supporting documents
- Assessing contractor and vendor commissioning plans, test scripts and energisation plans
- Leading and attending Factory Witness and Factory Acceptance Tests, site inspections and functional performance testing
- Diagnosing mechanical system faults and working with the project team to fix them
- Keeping issue registers, commissioning records and progress reports up to date
- Running commissioning meetings and contributing to programme planning and risk management
- Putting together final commissioning reports and handover packages

Systems you’ll work across

- Data centre cooling: CRAC units, CDUs and direct-to-chip liquid cooling




- Chilled water, condenser water and hydronic systems
- Air and water TAB
- Smoke control and stair pressurisation
- Fire protection and hydraulics
- BMS, EPMS and critical environmental controls

What we’re looking for

- A degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering, or a mechanical trade background with solid commissioning experience
- A proven commissioning track record in building services, mission critical, healthcare or similar environments
- Solid working knowledge of HVAC, chilled water, hydronic, fire and critical cooling systems
- Hands-on experience with equipment inspections, FWTs and FATs
- Good fault-finding skills and clear written and verbal communication
- Willingness to travel to project sites when needed

Highly regarded: data centre or healthcare experience, commissioning management software, MS Project, and accreditations such as ACG CxA, CSA, BCxA, ASHRAE BCxP, Green Star AP or LEED.

Important: You must be an Australian citizen for this role. You also need to be able to obtain and hold a Baseline security clearance, with scope to go to higher levels.
