Lead Commissioning Engineer - Data Centres - Melbourne

About the opportunity

Chandler Macleod is partnering with a leading global engineering and design consultancy to find a Lead Electrical Commissioning Engineer for their expanding Melbourne commissioning team. You’ll lead electrical commissioning on high-profile data centre, critical infrastructure and healthcare projects, and you’ll be supported by an international network of commissioning specialists.

This is a senior, hands-on role. You’ll own electrical commissioning from start to finish, make sure critical systems are handed over safely and in line with design intent, and act as the technical lead for contractors, vendors, consultants and the end client.

What the role involves

- Leading electrical commissioning across every project phase, from installation verification through to final handover
- Writing and reviewing Commissioning Management Plans, test procedures and supporting documents
- Assessing contractor and vendor commissioning plans, test scripts and energisation plans
- Leading Factory Witness and Factory Acceptance Tests, site inspections and functional testing
- Running Level 4 Functional Performance Testing and Level 5 Integrated Systems Testing
- Diagnosing complex electrical faults and driving them through to resolution
- Facilitating commissioning workshops, technical reviews and project meetings
- Contributing to scheduling, risk management and commissioning readiness
- Keeping issue registers, records and reports current, and preparing final handover packages
- Mentoring less experienced commissioning engineers and helping build the team’s capability

Systems you’ll work across





- LV and HV distribution, switchboards, transformers and protection
- UPS, generators, fuel systems and emergency/backup power
- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Earthing and grounding
- SCADA, EPMS and BMS
- Integrated systems testing and operational readiness programmes

What we’re looking for

- A degree in Electrical or Building Services Engineering, or an electrical trade background with substantial commissioning experience
- A proven record leading electrical commissioning on complex building services, mission critical, healthcare, industrial or infrastructure projects
- Strong technical depth across LV/HV, UPS, generators, transformers, protection, SCADA, EPMS and BMS
- Experience developing and running commissioning plans, test procedures and IST programmes
- Hands-on experience with equipment inspections, FWTs and FATs
- Confident stakeholder management and strong client-facing skills
- Sharp fault-finding ability and explicit written and verbal communication
- Willingness to travel to project sites when needed

Highly regarded: data centre or healthcare experience, commissioning management software, MS Project, and accreditations such as ACG CxA, CSA, BCxA, ASHRAE BCxP, Green Star AP or LEED.

Important: You must be an Australian citizen for this role. You also need to be able to obtain and hold a Baseline security clearance, with scope to go to higher levels.
