This role is pivotal to our commitment to maintaining exemplary safety standards and regulatory compliance across our road transport operations.
As Safety and Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring safety and compliance programmes that protect our employees, assets and reputation.
This position offers the chance to make a significant impact on workplace safety culture whilst ensuring our organisation meets all legislative requirements and industry best practices within the road transport sector.What you'll be doingDeveloping, implementing and monitoring comprehensive safety and compliance policies, procedures and programmes across all transport operationsConducting regular safety audits, inspections and risk assessments of vehicles, facilities and operational practicesInvestigating workplace incidents, accidents and near-miss events,



preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actionsEnsuring compliance with relevant legislation including the Heavy Vehicle National Law, Work Health and Safety Act and other transport regulationsCoordinating and delivering safety training and induction programmes to staff at all levelsMaintaining detailed safety records, documentation and compliance registersLiaising with regulatory authorities, insurers and external safety consultants as requiredIdentifying hazards and implementing control measures to minimise workplace risksPromoting a strong safety culture and encouraging employee participation in safety initiativesPreparing reports on safety performance metrics and compliance status for senior managementWhat we're looking forTertiary qualification in occupational health and safety, risk management or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experienceCurrent certification as a Safety and Compliance Officer or similar professional qualification (e.g. OHSA, IOSH, or equivalent)Substantial experience working in safety and compliance roles within the transport, logistics or road freight industryComprehensive knowledge of heavy vehicle regulations,



driver fatigue management and transport safety legislationProven ability to conduct incident investigations and implement effective corrective and preventative actionsStrong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard management practicesExcellent communication skills with the ability to deliver safety training and engage with employees at all levelsProficiency with safety management systems, incident reporting tools and compliance documentation softwareDemonstrated ability to analyse safety data, identify trends and develop evidence-based recommendationsStrong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and promote a safety-first cultureValid driver's licence and willingness to visit operational sites and conduct vehicle inspectionsWhat we offerMetro Express Pty Ltd is committed to supporting the wellbeing and professional development of our employees.
