Are you a strategic thinker with strong business acumen and a deep understanding of the NDIS setting?
Looking for an opportunity to contribute to an organisation making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people with disability?
Ready to help a small not-for-profit navigate commercial realities, regulatory requirements and sustainable growth while maintaining a genuine commitment to quality and outcomes for people?
Here's an opportunity to join the Board of a highly-regarded Brisbane-based organisation, helping shape its future while supporting young people with disability to build friendships, develop confidence and live more independent lives.
Heart Talent is delighted to partner with BestLife Foundation to appoint a volunteer Board Member who will bring strategic insight, sector knowledge and a genuine commitment to the organisation's mission.
About the opportunity
BestLife is seeking an additional Board Member to complement its experienced, committed and values-led Board.
With growing demand for its programs, an expanding supported independent living offering and the opening of Helena's House in 2027, BestLife is entering an exciting next chapter, creating more opportunities for young people with disability to build independence and transition into adult life.
At the same time, the NDIS environment continues to evolve, bringing increasing complexity for providers and reinforcing the importance of strong governance, strategic thinking and long-term sustainability.
At this key stage of BestLife's journey, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful strategic contribution, helping the organisation navigate a changing regulatory environment, manage risk and pursue intentional, sustainable growth.
Working collaboratively with fellow Board members and the CEO, you'll contribute to:
- strategic planning and long-term organisational direction
- decision-making around sustainable growth, service development and organisational resilience
- governance, risk management, quality, safeguarding and regulatory compliance
- responding to changes in the NDIS environment and the implications for BestLife
- supporting and constructively challenging the CEO and leadership team
- representing BestLife, building valuable connections and contributing to fundraising, partnerships and community engagement.
About BestLife
There is so much joy and excitement in growing up. Friendships, new experiences, greater freedom and the confidence to find your own way in the world.
BestLife believes young people with disability deserve those same opportunities.
For almost 15 years, this Brisbane-based not-for-profit has been creating genuine pathways to independence through fun, friendship, social connection and meaningful life experiences.
BestLife highly personalised programs provide opportunities for young people to spend time away from home, develop lifelong friendships, build everyday living skills and gradually prepare for a more independent adult life.
What begins with a shared dinner or a first sleepover can develop into longer stays, greater independence and, ultimately, the confidence and skills to transition into a home of their own.
With a dedicated team of more than 35 people, BestLife has built a strong reputation for quality services, genuine relationships with families and a commitment to putting people first.
As more young people progress towards supported independent living, BestLife is carefully expanding its services in response to the changing needs and aspirations of the people it supports.
The opening of Helena's House represents another significant milestone, creating a permanent home for its independence-building programs and supporting the organisation's long-term sustainability.
At the heart of everything is a simple commitment: to help young people with disability live their best life.
About you
We're looking for a strategic thinker with strong business acumen and a sound understanding of the NDIS environment, particularly the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
Your experience may come from a senior leadership, strategy, quality, safeguarding, governance or operational role within a disability service provider.
You understand the challenges facing NDIS providers and can look beyond immediate operational and compliance requirements to consider their broader strategic implications.
You appreciate the agility and realities of operating a small organisation, bringing the commercial judgement and strategic perspective to contribute to good governance, informed decision-making and long-term sustainability.
We'd love you to bring:
- experience in strategic planning, organisational development and sustainable growth
- ability to interpret changes in the NDIS regulatory environment and assess their implications for strategy, risk, compliance and service delivery
- sound commercial judgement and financial literacy
- an understanding of the opportunities and constraints of operating a small organisation
- ability to contribute to strategic discussions and bring different perspectives to decision-making
- strong communication, collaboration and relationship-building skills
- willingness to leverage your professional network to support BestLife's mission, fundraising and community engagement.
You're curious, pragmatic and solutions-focused, bringing sound judgement and an ability to think strategically while appreciating the operational realities of a small organisation.
Just as importantly, you'll share BestLife's commitment to person-centred support, genuine relationships and creating opportunities for young people with disability to live fulfilling, connected and increasingly independent lives.
Previous Board experience is welcome but not essential. We're equally interested in hearing from experienced professionals who are looking to make their first contribution as a non-executive director.
