The Flywheel Bar & Cafe is a family-run venue in the heart of Beaufort, set in the old Beaufort Motors building. We’re known for quality food and coffee, live music and genuine, friendly service. The business is thriving and growing, and we’ve just installed a stone-base pizza oven. Now we need an experienced Sous Chef to help us make the most of it.

The role

As our Head Chef’s second-in-command, you’ll help lead the kitchen, cook across our menu and specials, and play a key part in getting our pizza offering up and running. On some shifts you’ll run the kitchen on your own, including opening and closing.

Permanent part-time, minimum 30 guaranteed hours per week, with full-time ongoing possible as we grow

Weekend and evening availability required

Level 4 (Cook Grade 3) or Level 5 (Cook Grade 4) under the Restaurant Industry Award, depending on experience, with award-compliant pay plus superannuation

Key responsibilities

Prepare and cook menu items, specials and pizzas to our standards

Operate the stone-base pizza oven: dough, stretching, topping, firing and oven management

Help develop the pizza menu and specials with the Head Chef





Lead the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence and guide junior staff

Prep, stock rotation, ordering support and waste control

Follow our food safety, allergen and WHS procedures

About you

Solid experience as a chef in a busy commercial kitchen, ideally in a senior or 2IC role

Confident running a service independently

Strong food safety and allergen knowledge

Reliable, a good communicator and a positive team player

Stone-base or woodfired pizza experience is a big plus, but not essential. If you’re keen to learn, we’ll back you.

Certificate III/IV in Commercial Cookery and a Food Safety Supervisor certificate are desirable
