Maranoa Regional Council

Roma

Roma or Surat | Full-time | 9-day fortnight Know the land? Enjoy working outdoors? This could be the job for you. If you're at home on the land, enjoy practical work and know your way around rural properties, we'd like to hear from you. Maranoa Regional Council is looking for a Rural Lands Officer to join our team, helping manage pest plants and animals, maintain stock routes and protect the rural industries that keep our region going. This isn't your typical desk job. You'll spend much of your time outdoors, travelling across the Maranoa, working with landholders and getting involved in a wide range of hands-on activities. You'll work alongside a regionally based team, sometimes working together and other times getting on with things independently.

What does the job involve?

- Wild dogs and feral pigs: Working on pest animal management programs alongside landholders and government agencies.
- Weeds and invasive grasses: Identifying infestations and undertaking monitoring and control activities.
- Stock routes and water facilities: Inspecting, maintaining and helping manage the region's stock route network and water infrastructure.
- Plant and equipment: Operating small equipment and undertaking practical maintenance and improvement works.
- Working with landholders: Building relationships and helping people manage biosecurity issues.
- Compliance and education: Providing advice, undertaking inspections and helping protect the region's rural industries.

You'll travel throughout the Maranoa, see plenty of country and have the opportunity to work across different areas of local government rural land management.

Sound like you? You might already be working in agriculture, on a cattle or sheep property, in rural contracting or in pest and weed management. Experience working with livestock, including cattle, sheep or goats, would be an advantage.

An understanding of grazing operations, livestock movements, rural property management and the challenges faced by landholders would be valuable in this role. Check the Position Description for the licences, qualifications and experience required*. (*or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of commencement)

We're looking for someone who:

- Enjoys working outdoors and doesn't mind getting their hands dirty.
- Has practical skills and a good understanding of rural environments.
- Has experience working with livestock or in rural industries.
- Can work independently, use their initiative and get the job done.
- Is comfortable working with machinery and equipment.
- Gets along with people and can communicate well with landholders.
- Takes pride in their work and understands the importance of looking after the land.

What do you get?

- A 9-day fortnight with a rostered day off.
- Five weeks' annual leave.
- Three weeks' personal leave.
- Rural Lands Allowance of $71.79 per week.
- Maranoa Locality Allowance of $72 per fortnight.
- Long service leave after seven years.
- Paid parental leave and salary sacrifice options.
- Employee wellbeing benefits, including discounted gym memberships.

Position: Full-time, based in Roma or Surat. Classification: Stream B - Level 9, Maranoa Regional Council Certified Agreement 2023.

Interested? If you enjoy working on the land and want a job with variety, a good team and the chance to make a difference across the Maranoa, we'd like to hear from you. Apply with your resume and a short covering letter explaining why the role interests you.
