Senior Associate, AI Governance and Operations
Queensland Treasury Corporation – Brisbane QLD
1d ago , from Queensland Treasury Corporation
We’re looking for a Senior Associate, AI Governance and Operations to help shape how AI is responsibly adopted and governed across QTC, while operating and continuously improving our day-to-day AI governance processes.
Working closely with our Principal, AI Implementation, you’ll manage AI governance matters from initial intake and triage through assessment, specialist review, decision support and ongoing monitoring. You’ll help ensure AI initiatives are understood, appropriately assessed and supported by clear, audit-ready governance records.
This is a hands-on governance and operations role. It’s an opportunity to bring your experience in governance, risk, assurance, business analysis or technology operations into one of the fastest evolving areas of enterprise technology.
What you’ll do
You’ll play a key role in the practical operation and continuous improvement of QTC’s AI governance framework, including:
- Own the AI intake and triage process, ensuring matters are appropriately registered, assessed, progressed and escalated.
- Coordinate assessments and specialist input across privacy, security, compliance, legal, model and enterprise risk.
- Maintain QTC’s AI governance registers, inventories and evidence, ensuring records are accurate, traceable and audit-ready.
- Manage multiple concurrent AI governance matters, keeping stakeholders informed and actions progressing through to closure.
- Support the governance of AI agents, including ownership, registration, attestations, remediation and lifecycle monitoring.
- Undertake first-pass assessments of vendor and platform changes, considering access, permissions, data handling, functionality and monitoring.
- Prepare clear assessment materials, governance papers and reporting for senior stakeholders and governance forums.
- Provide practical first-line AI governance guidance and help improve processes, controls, templates and supporting materials.
- Proactively monitor emerging AI trends, technologies and industry developments, translating relevant insights into practical implications for QTC’s AI governance approach.
About you
You don’t need to be an AI engineer, developer or architect.
What matters is that you know how to make governance work in practice. You can take a request, identify what information is missing, ask the right questions, understand requirements, apply an established framework and bring the right people together to progress an outcome.
Your background could be in governance, risk and compliance, technology risk, PMO, business analysis, assurance or Microsoft platform governance.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Demonstrated experience operating within a governance, risk, compliance, assurance or other regulated environment.
- Experience managing an intake, case queue or multiple concurrent matters.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability, with experience gathering requirements, asking the right questions and translating complex information into clear, practical actions.
- Strong record-keeping discipline across registers, inventories, evidence repositories or other formal governance records.
- The ability to assess information, identify risk and recognise when specialist input or escalation is needed.
- Solid stakeholder skills and the confidence to constructively challenge and influence without direct authority.
- Experience preparing assessments, briefings or reporting for senior stakeholders.
- Practical Microsoft 365 capability and the ability to quickly understand how technology, permissions and data access fit together.
- Curiosity about AI and emerging technology, with the initiative to continuously build your knowledge as the technology, risks and governance landscape evolve.
- The underlying role requirements include governance and assurance experience, management of multiple concurrent matters, disciplined governance records, senior stakeholder reporting and Microsoft 365 capability.
A working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Power Platform or Dynamics 365 will be highly regarded.
Exposure to technologies such as Purview, Entra, Defender, Fabric, Azure AI or Databricks would also be valuable, but we don’t expect you to be an expert across every platform.
You’ll ideally understand the fundamentals of Responsible AI and AI risk, including concepts such as human oversight and transparency, as well as risks including hallucination, prompt injection, data leakage and inappropriate
