Mildura
Lead a member-owned regional health institution into its second century
About Mildura Health
Established in 1929, Mildura Health is one of Australia’s oldest open health funds and a proud, member-owned regional organisation. Today it combines private health insurance with ownership of Mildura Health Private Hospital and investment in healthcare infrastructure and services that enable more people to receive quality care closer to home. Mildura Health has more than 40,000 members, over 75% of whom reside in Sunraysia, with a broader presence including Swan Hill and Broken Hill.
The organisation approaches its centenary from a position of strength. Its next CEO will have the rare chance to steward an organisation with deep community legitimacy while shaping its future direction.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Board, the Chief Executive Officer will provide strategic, commercial, operational and cultural leadership across Mildura Health. The priority is to preserve what makes Mildura Health distinctive while building the capability required for its next chapter.
The CEO will lead an agenda encompassing:
- sustainable membership growth and member value;
- financial and capital stewardship;
- the continuing sustainability and strategic contribution of Mildura Health Private Hospital;
- technology modernisation and stronger data governance;
- innovation and appropriate adoption of emerging technology;
- workforce planning, leadership capability and succession;
- strong governance, risk and regulatory leadership;
- strategic partnerships and improved access to regional healthcare; and
- significant infrastructure and investment decisions as the organisation prepares for its second century.
The position also carries an important external leadership responsibility. Mildura Health is a highly visible regional institution and its CEO must develop trusted relationships with members, employees, clinicians, regulators, government, industry partners and the broader community.
You will be an accomplished senior executive with the judgement and maturity to inherit a successful organisation, understand what should be preserved and determine where change will create genuine long-term value.
The Board is particularly interested in executives who can demonstrate:
- substantial CEO, Executive Director or comparable executive leadership experience;
- private health insurance, healthcare or broader highly regulated-sector experience;
- strong commercial and financial acumen, including financial stewardship and capital management;
- successful leadership of a complex organisation;
- extensive experience reporting to and partnering with a Board;
- strong governance, risk and regulatory capability;
- a track record of strategic transformation and organisational change;
- outstanding stakeholder, government and community engagement skills;
- the ability to build high-performing, accountable and values-led cultures; and
- leadership of significant projects, investment or organisational initiatives.
A relevant tertiary qualification is required. Postgraduate qualifications in management, governance, strategy, finance or leadership would be advantageous.
You will be strategic, commercially astute, highly ethical, collaborative, approachable, decisive and resilient. You will lead through trust and credibility rather than hierarchy and understand that successful leadership in Mildura requires genuine engagement with the community.
Why Mildura Health?
Few CEO appointments combine this breadth of enterprise leadership with such tangible community impact.

- lead one of Australia’s longest-established open health funds;

- strengthen the relationship between the Fund and Mildura Health Private Hospital;
- shape major digital, data, infrastructure and partnership initiatives;
