About the Role An established national consultancy is seeking a Fire Safety Engineer to join its Perth team and deliver performance-based fire safety engineering projects across Australia.
This is a fire safety engineering role focused on NCC performance solutions, fire engineering assessments, modelling and risk analysis. It is not a fire protection engineering or services design position and does not involve the detailed design of sprinkler, hydrant, alarm or other fire protection systems.
You will work under the technical supervision of a registered Fire Safety Engineer while progressing toward the registrations required to independently sign fire engineering reports and performance solutions
Duties
- Prepare fire engineering assessments, strategies and NCC performance solutions
- Develop Fire Engineering Briefs and performance-based fire engineering reports
- Undertake qualitative and quantitative analysis of:
- Means of escape
- Smoke movement
- Firefighting operations
- Active and passive fire safety systems
- Complete CFD smoke modelling and egress simulations using FDS, PyroSim and Pathfinder
- Apply the NCC Performance Solution Process and Verification Methods CV1–CV3
- Liaise with certifiers, peer reviewers, fire authorities, clients and consultants
- Undertake dangerous goods, hazardous chemicals and hazardous-area assessments
- Complete consequence modelling and quantitative risk assessments
- Conduct site inspections, audits and existing-building assessments
- Assist with proposals, fee estimates and project scopes
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to graduate engineers
- Travel interstate occasionally for inspections and technical consultation
About You
- Bachelor of Engineering with Honours or an equivalent relevant qualification
- Postgraduate qualification in Fire Safety Engineering, either completed or currently underway
- Minimum two years’ postgraduate engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience delivering fire, risk or hazard engineering assessments
- Experience preparing NCC performance solutions and fire engineering reports
- Working knowledge of NCC Volume One and the ABCB Performance Solution Process
- Understanding of Verification Methods CV1–CV3 and the International Fire Engineering Guidelines
- Experience using FDS, PyroSim and Pathfinder
- Membership with Engineers Australia
- Commitment to obtaining CPEng, RPEQ, NER and relevant state registrations
- Dangerous goods or hazardous-area experience will be highly regarded
- Full Australian working rights and willingness to undertake occasional interstate travel
Development Pathway This position offers a structured pathway toward becoming an independently registered Fire Safety Engineer. Initially, all performance solutions, fire engineering reports and statutory documentation will be technically reviewed and signed by a registered Fire Safety Engineer. As you achieve agreed technical and registration milestones, you will progress toward leading larger projects, managing stakeholder consultation and signing performance solutions in your own name where appropriately registered.
Company and Culture
This multidisciplinary consultancy delivers fire safety engineering, building compliance and specialist risk services across Australia. The team values technical quality, career development and practical solutions that withstand internal, peer and regulatory review.
You will receive technical supervision, registration support and opportunities to develop specialist capability across fire safety engineering, dangerous goods and hazardous-area assessments.
