HiTalent Recruitment is seeking Mental Health Support Workers to join a respected NfP in Newcastle.

Help people experiencing mental health challenges build independence, develop everyday living skills and strengthen their connection to the community.

Provide individualised psychosocial support to people living with severe and persistent mental illness, helping them build independence, strengthen community connections and achieve their recovery goals.

About the role

- Develop and review individual recovery plans alongside participants, families, carers and clinicians.

- Support daily living skills, self-care, social participation and access to education or employment.

- Connect participants with relevant health services and community support.

- Maintain accurate case notes, electronic records and reporting.

- Work independently and collaboratively within a recovery-focused team.

Essential requirements

- Certificate IV in Community Services, Mental Health, Peer Work, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the role.

- Current Australian driver’s licence.





- Relevant experience in mental health or psychosocial support, typically one year or more.

- Understanding of recovery-oriented practice, consumer rights and the needs of people experiencing severe and persistent mental illness.

- Ability to develop individual support plans that reflect participants’ goals.

- Solid communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.

- Confidence using Microsoft Office and maintaining electronic client records.

Desirable: Mental Health First Aid, current First Aid, ASIST training or suicide intervention experience, NDIS experience and knowledge of local community services.

What’s on offer?

- $50 per hour — casual SCHADS Level 3 rate.

- Full-time weekday hours.

- Opportunities in Taree and Newcastle.

- Immediate start preferred, with an assignment through to the end of January.
