Own the numbers behind a growing national commercial flooring contracting business. As our Project Accountant, you will turn job costing, WIP and margin data into clear, timely insight for the people delivering our projects, working side by side with our Contract Administrators and leadership team. If you are a construction-minded accountant who likes being close to the work, this role puts you at the centre of it.

Key Selling Points

- Own job costing, WIP and margin reporting across a national project portfolio

About Embelton

Embelton is one of Australia's most trusted names in floor coverings, operating across the Commercial, Residential, Retail, Trade and Engineering markets. Backed by more than 100 years of industry experience, we continue to evolve and innovate to meet the changing needs of the flooring industry and shape Australia's built environment.

The Role

Based at our Coburg North head office and reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Project Accountant is responsible for the financial integrity of Embelton's commercial flooring contracting projects across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia. You will own job costing and work in progress, prepare monthly margin and forecast-to-complete reporting, and make sure every progress claim and variation is accurate and properly supported before it reaches the client.

This is a hands-on role. You will work closely with our Senior Contracts Administrator and Contract Administrators, who manage our client relationships and project delivery,

as well as with estimating, operations and corporate finance. Your job is to give them clear, reliable numbers and help build their commercial confidence. Success looks like projects costed and claimed correctly, margin risks visible early, and a month-end process the business can rely on.

Key Responsibilities

- Manage job costing and work in progress (WIP) reporting across all contracting projects in Pronto

- Prepare and present monthly project margin analysis and forecast-to-complete reporting

- Review progress claims and variations for accuracy and supporting evidence before they are submitted

- Reconcile project costs, accruals and committed costs, and flag margin fade or cost overruns early

- Track retentions, bank guarantees and securities, and ensure they are released on time

- Support month-end close for the contracting division, including project revenue and accruals

- Monitor contracting debtors and project cash flow, working with CAs to follow up overdue claims

- Partner with the Senior Contracts Administrator to give the CA team timely project financial information and support their commercial skills

- Champion Pronto for job costing, claims and project reporting, and continuously improve reporting processes

- Support project set-up, budgets and close-out, including final account reconciliations

Skills and Experience To be successful in this role,

ideally you will possess the following:

- Degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a related discipline

- CPA or CA qualification, completed or in progress, highly regarded

- At least 5 years' accounting experience, including project accounting in construction, contracting, fit-out or another project-based business

- Demonstrated experience with job costing, WIP, progress claims and variations

- Solid month-end, reconciliation and reporting skills

- ERP system experience (Pronto highly regarded) and advanced Excel skills

- Working knowledge of Security of Payment legislation and standard construction contract terms is a plus

- Clear communicator, comfortable working with project teams, builders and senior management

Why Join Embelton?

- A respected Australian brand with over 100 years of industry experience
- A supportive, collaborative culture with strong leadership and clear direction

- Real ownership: shape how project financials are managed and reported in a growing national contracting business

- Close to the work: direct access to the COO, and a role where your numbers drive project decisions

Ready to own the numbers behind every project?

If you are a commercially minded accountant who likes being close to the work and wants to see your impact on every project's margin, we want to hear from you.
