Project Engineer | Noble Engineering Services | Beresfield, Newcastle NSW
Full-time | Competitive remuneration aligned to capability and contribution
What if your next engineering role actually had somewhere to go?
At Noble Engineering Services (NES), we’re building more than an engineering team – we’re building a place where good engineers can grow, contribute and become exceptional at what they do.
Our mine winder and shaft systems work is growing, and we’re looking for a Project Engineer to join our Newcastle team. Working closely with our engineering and project leadership, you’ll contribute to the design, inspection, audit, investigation and overhaul of winding systems and other industrial assets across NSW.
Winders are among the most safety-critical assets on a mine site, and specialist exposure to their design, condition and lifecycle is not something every engineer gets. You’ll also have the support of NES’s multidisciplinary Engineering, NDT, Condition Monitoring and Metallurgy teams.
The work
Depending on your experience and capability, you’ll contribute to:
· Mechanical and structural engineering assessments, calculations, design development, verification and drawing review.
· Mine winder and shaft system inspections and statutory five-yearly audit activities, including site inspections, document review, findings and technical reporting.
· Scoping and coordinating NDT inspections and interpreting results with NES’s in-house specialists.
· Failure investigations, engineering assessments and root-cause analysis involving winding and other industrial equipment.
· Overhaul, modification and improvement projects – from defining the technical scope through to installation and close-out.
· CAD modelling and drafting, technical reports, quotations, scopes of work and engineering recommendations.
· Direct liaison with mine site engineers, clients, contractors and NES’s multidisciplinary teams.
The NES difference
We don’t believe career progression should mean simply waiting for a vacancy or accumulating years of service. Our NES Capability Framework (NESCF) provides a transparent pathway from developing engineer through to experienced, senior and principal-level contribution, with progression based on capability, performance and contribution.
Your development can extend beyond technical engineering into client relationships, commercial understanding, leadership, mentoring, innovation and broader business contribution. At NES, we value people who apply themselves, build relationships, develop professionally and help leave the business better than they found it.
What you’ll bring
· A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
· Around four or more years’ relevant experience in mining, heavy industry, mechanical design, maintenance or engineering consultancy.
· Sound analytical and problem-solving capability, including mechanical or structural assessment; experience with fatigue assessment is advantageous.
· Clear technical writing, sound attention to detail and confidence communicating with clients and site personnel.
· A genuine commitment to safety, quality, professional standards and practical engineering outcomes.
· Curiosity and ambition to develop specialist engineering expertise.
Experience with mine winding systems, relevant Technical Reference Guides (including MDG 33), applicable Australian Standards, FEA and CAD will be highly regarded.
Winder experience is not essential for an engineer with the right foundation, judgement and willingness to learn. CPEng/RPEng or progress towards professional recognition is valued.
Regular regional NSW travel to mine sites will be required.
Ready for something better?
Interesting engineering. Specialist exposure. A supportive multidisciplinary team. A career pathway you can actually see. If you’re ready to do engineering that matters and want the opportunity to become more than the job title on your résumé, we’d like to hear from you.
