An established Tier 2 head contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to play a key leadership role in the successful delivery of new build projects across education, aged care, commercial and health sectors.

Working closely with the Project Manager, you will oversee project planning, programming, design coordination, contract administration and in office activities, while supporting the broader project team to achieve commercial, quality and delivery objectives.

This is an opportunity for a commercially minded engineer who can work autonomously, take ownership of key project functions and contribute to the successful delivery of complex construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Planning & Programming

- Prepare, manage and monitor construction programs, including short and medium-term schedules.
- Identify potential delays and implement strategies to recover time and maintain project milestones.
- Manage extensions of time and contractual programming requirements.
- Coordinate design and procurement programs.
- Work closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure projects are delivered on time and to the required standard.

Design Management

- Coordinate design development and consultant deliverables.
- Manage consultant engagement and design coordination processes.
- Resolve design issues and ensure compliance with relevant building codes, Australian Standards and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee design coordination to ensure alignment with project specifications and construction programs.

Contract & Commercial Administration

- Manage contractual obligations and subcontractor administration.
- Review progress claims, payments, variations and back charges.
- Assist with cost reporting, forecasting and financial management.
- Prepare and review subcontractor scopes of work and tender documentation.
- Coordinate tender assessments and subcontractor appointments.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance, insurances and contractual obligations.




- Manage project documentation and commercial correspondence.

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management

- Support the Project Manager in leading and coordinating the site team.
- Delegate responsibilities and provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
- Contribute to performance management and professional development.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Represent the project team in meetings and contribute to tender and client presentations.

Quality, Safety & Environment

- Ensure compliance with project quality, safety and environmental requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve project efficiency, quality and cost performance.
- Coordinate quality assurance processes, including Inspection and Test Plans and Safe Work Method Statements.
- Proactively identify and address project risks, hazards and non-conformances.

Skills & Experience

- Demonstrated experience as a Senior Project Engineer within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of construction programming, contract administration and commercial management.
- Experience coordinating design development and resolving complex design issues.
- Strong knowledge of construction methodologies, quality assurance and WHS requirements.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor and coordinate project teams.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
