About the role
We’re looking for a Digital Integration Specialist to join a small team of senior subject matter experts for a major Defence organisation in Canberra. Your job is to make sure new and existing capabilities connect and share information across the force, so the right data gets to the right people at the right time.
You’ll be the trusted technical voice on digital integration for some of Defence’s most significant capability programs, with autonomous and robotic systems as the priority. You’ll review capability proposals and designs from the earliest stages, advise on the best integration approach, and help solve integration risks and issues on programs already underway. Your advice will shape how future capability is designed, bought and brought into service.
This is a full time onsite role in Canberra on a two year contract starting January 2027, with options to extend. Some interstate and overseas travel may be needed for trials, exercises and engagement with coalition partners.
What you’ll be doing
- Building a deep understanding of how Defence’s networked systems fit together, and advising on the digital integration needs of new capability
- Assessing and endorsing integration approaches for capability programs in their early stages, and helping resolve integration risks and issues on programs already underway
- Working alongside capability programs as their go-to adviser on digital integration and priorities
- Writing clear, authoritative technical advice for senior Defence stakeholders
- Developing technical designs, solution documentation and formal proposals for capability options
- Helping shape the current and future design baselines for Defence’s networked system of systems
- Leading stakeholder forums and workshops across Defence, government and industry
- Reviewing capability documentation, designs,
test and evaluation plans and sustainment activities, and providing formal integration advice
- Exploring emerging technologies and proposing innovation activities to keep capability future ready
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications in Science, Engineering, IT or a related field, and/or equivalent demonstrated experience
- Specialist experience in one or more of: networking, military C4 software, tactical data links, enterprise architecture, distributed systems, tactical or strategic networking bearers and waveforms (including SATCOM), software design and management, autonomous systems, or fires systems
- Knowledge of Defence capability development and acquisition, with hands-on experience applying your technical expertise across the capability life cycle
- Confidence engaging with and influencing ADF, APS and industry stakeholders
- The ability to comply with ITAR requirements
- An active NV1 security clearance, and willingness to upgrade to NV2 if required
It would be outstanding if you also have
- Experience operating, managing or integrating C4 systems, whether through military service, industry or engineering roles
- Knowledge of integration with coalition and government partners, such as Five Eyes nations
- Experience with Defence capability programs and the Defence Capability System
- Experience running workshops and planning forums
- Program or project management experience
- An understanding of systems design, test and evaluation, verification and validation, configuration and risk management
Why apply? You’ll be doing work that directly shapes how Defence fights and communicates in the future. You’ll be part of a collaborative team of senior specialists, with a mix of strategic and hands-on technical work and the chance to influence major programs from the very start.
