FreeAppStore is a mobile-first platform offering free, open-source web apps for everyday tasks with no charges, ads, or paywalls. The catalog includes timers, calculators, notes, learning tools and creative apps on their own subdomains under the MIT license. Creators get GitHub repositories, HTTPS subdomains, automated deployments, and an SDK, alongside FreeGameStore and FreeWebStore.
Role Description
This is an unpaid volunteer internship (not employment or contract work). Remote. Minimum commitment: 8+ hours each week for 10 approved weeks. A certificate is available only after the required approved weeks are completed.
Day-to-day work may include implementing user interfaces, integrating platform SDK features (sign-in, storage, realtime rooms), working with APIs, and ensuring responsive, accessible designs. You will collaborate asynchronously,
keep clear evidence of weekly progress, and respond to feedback.
Programme terms
- Interviews: Australia and Recent Zealand applicants only.
- Daily stand-up style meetings at 9:00 AM Melbourne time; attend at least two meetings each week.
- A week counts only when a specific goal is agreed, achieved, submitted, and approved.
Qualifications
- Software development skills for building and maintaining web applications.
- Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (TypeScript or a modern frontend framework is a plus).
- Familiarity with Git/GitHub and open-source contribution practices.
- Ability to work independently remotely and communicate clearly in writing.
