Many WHS roles sit inside a single operation. This one sits at group level and supports multiple business units, each with its own people, risks and ways of working. You’ll be the go-to safety expert across the whole group. You’ll adapt your advice to each part of the business and help bring them together under one solid, consistent safety culture.
About the role
Reporting to the HR Manager, you’ll lead workplace health and safety across the group. You’ll build and improve WHS systems, policies and procedures, and you’ll also manage workers’ compensation and injury management from start to finish. It’s a hands-on role with a lot of influence, suited to someone who enjoys being trusted to run their own area.
What you’ll be doing
- Developing, implementing and reviewing WHS policies, procedures and systems across the group
- Acting as the trusted WHS adviser to leaders and workers in every business unit
- Supporting incident investigations, risk assessments, inspections and audits
- Designing and delivering WHS training, and reporting on safety performance to senior leadership
- Running the Health and Safety Committee and partnering with HR on an annual wellbeing program
- Managing WorkCover claims end-to-end,
including liaising with insurers, rehab providers and medical professionals
- Coordinating return-to-work plans and driving strategies to reduce injuries and claims costs
What you’ll bring
- Tertiary qualifications in WHS or a related discipline, or at least 4 years’ experience in the field
- Solid working knowledge of WHS legislation, risk management and incident investigation
- Proven experience managing workers’ compensation and return-to-work programs
- Strong communication skills, with the confidence to influence stakeholders at every level, from the frontline to senior leadership
- Sharp analytical, problem-solving and report-writing skills
- Confidence using WHS management systems and Microsoft Office
- The ability to obtain and keep a National Police Check, and a Working with Vulnerable People clearance if required
- Willingness to travel to remote locations from time to time
Highly regarded: Certificate IV in Personal Injury Management or Return to Work Coordination.
