About The Role:

Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking applications for an Open Spaces Maintenance Officer to join the Open Spaces and Cemeteries team. This hands-on role supports the construction, establishment and ongoing maintenance of Council parks, gardens, streetscapes, cemeteries and related infrastructure, helping to ensure our public spaces remain safe, functional and well presented across the Whitsunday Region.

Your Impact:

- Contribute to the safe, efficient and high-quality presentation of Council parks, gardens, streetscapes and public-use facilities.
- Support the maintenance and improvement of open space assets and infrastructure used by residents, visitors and the wider community.
- Work as part of a practical, safety-focused team delivering essential services across the region.

What You’ll Be Doing:

- Undertaking mowing, brush cutting, edging, vegetation control, litter collection and general open space maintenance.
- Maintaining and developing garden beds and streetscapes through planting, mulching, pruning, watering and weed control.
- Installing, inspecting and maintaining park infrastructure, irrigation systems, playground equipment and public-use facilities.
- Completing minor repairs and maintenance, including painting, pressure cleaning,



graffiti removal and basic carpentry tasks within your skills and training.
- Safely operating and caring for allocated vehicles, plant and equipment, including trucks, trailers, ride-on mowers and brushcutters.
- Supporting cemetery maintenance and burial activities, regional operations, and disaster response and recovery activities as required.

About You:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- A current MR Driver Licence, or the willingness and ability to obtain one, and a Construction Safety Induction Card (White Card).
- The ability to safely undertake physical labouring and outdoor maintenance activities in varying conditions.
- Experience operating and caring for plant, equipment and small machinery used in open space maintenance.
- A strong commitment to safety, teamwork and customer service, with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
