Youth Athlete Coach (Part time)
ACME Performance, Burleigh Heads
ATTN Gold Coast Ex Sci Students!
You’re studying because you want a career coaching athletes. Not something to fall back on. The actual career.
But right now you’re doing floor shifts at a big box gym, or a prac where you mostly watch, or coaching your old club for free on a Tuesday night. You know you could do more. There’s just nowhere to do it yet, and no one showing you how.
You might not even be looking for a job. Read this anyway.
What ACME Youth is
We teach kids how to train for life. Sport is where it starts, but what they leave with is knowing how to move and train their own body, forever.
It’s a strength and conditioning program for athletes aged 12 to 16. Every kid gets tested, placed in a level, and runs their own program off a printed sheet. They retest every quarter to see if they’ve moved up. Kids don’t stand around waiting to be told what to do. They own their training, and the coach keeps them moving well and honest on their program.
The goal is 3,000 kids learning how to train properly, at a price normal families can afford, whether they’re at an elite club or not. We’re a long way off that. Which is the point of this job.
The job right now
It starts small. 3 hours a week:
- 2 hours coaching youth sessions
- 1 hour on testing, athlete data and parent admin
Where it goes
Your hours grow as the program grows. Along the way you’ll pick up more youth sessions, run testing days, onboard new athletes, and coach our adult group classes too.
Long term, ACME Youth is yours. The athletes, the parents, the testing, the holiday camps, the numbers. Growing it becomes your job, and you’ll have a real say in where it goes.
I’m not hiring someone to fill a timeslot. I’m hiring the person who ends up running this.
How you’ll learn it
You won’t get handed a target and left to work it out. There’s a system: a testing battery, three athlete levels, individual programs,
and a playbook for how sessions run.
You’ll learn it from me. I coach it, then we coach it together, then you run it and I get out of your way. Once something’s yours, I’m not taking it back.
I also want to know what you want, not just what you can do for ACME. Where you want to be in three years, what you’re working toward with study and quals, and how this role gets you there.
It’ll stretch you
Some days will be hard. A parent who isn’t happy. A session where nothing goes to plan. Feedback from me that you need to use the very next session. That’s how you get good, and you won’t be doing it on your own.
This is you if
✅ You want a career in S&C;, not a side hustle
✅ You like working with teenagers and can talk to a 13-year-old and their parent in the same conversation
✅ You hold yourself to a high standard, in the gym and out of it
✅ You take feedback well and actually use it
✅ When you stuff up, you own it and fix it
✅ You finish what you start
✅ You want more than you’re getting right now
This isn’t for you if you’re after a few extra shifts while you figure out what you want to do. Nothing wrong with that. It’s just not this role.
You’ll need
- Cert III in Fitness
- To be currently studying sport and exercise science, human movement or similar
- Cert IV and ASCA Level 1, or be working toward them
- A Blue Card, or be happy to get one before you start
- Current first aid and CPR
The details
- Part-time, 3 hours a week to start, growing with the program
- Youth sessions currently run Monday 3:30pm, Tuesday 6:30pm, Wednesday 6:30pm and Thursday 3:30pm
- ACME Performance, Burleigh Heads
- Start date TBA
