We're looking for an experienced MIG Welder / Metal Fabricator who can work independently from technical drawings—measuring, cutting, fitting, welding and assembling custom steel components.

You'll work on handrails, banister rails, brackets, frames and other fabricated components used in accessibility and home modification projects across Melbourne.

What You'll Do

- Perform quality MIG welding, including welding galvanised pipe.
- Read and interpret fabrication drawings, specifications and welding symbols.
- Independently measure, mark, cut, fit and assemble steel components.
- Fabricate handrails, banister rails, brackets, frames and other custom steel products.
- Work with mild steel, stainless steel and other relevant metals.
- Operate fabrication equipment including saws, grinders, drills, jigs and clamps.
- Grind, finish and prepare components for painting, including spray painting as required.
- Check completed work for accuracy, alignment, weld quality and finish.
- Resolve practical fabrication issues while following safety and quality requirements.
- Maintain a safe, organised workshop and complete required job records.

What We're Looking For

- Robust MIG welding skills and experience welding galvanised steel pipe.
- Relevant steel fabrication experience.
- Ability to independently interpret drawings and complete measuring, cutting, fitting,



welding and assembly.
- Good practical problem-solving and attention to detail.
- High standards of workmanship, safety and quality.
- Ability to work reliably with limited supervision.
- Good communication, teamwork and organisation skills.
- Availability for 6:00 AM starts, Monday to Friday, at our Preston workshop.

Qualifications and Experience

You'll need one of the following:

- Relevant AQF Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade, Welding or equivalent, including relevant on-the-job training; or
- Relevant AQF Certificate IV; or
- At least three years of relevant welding/fabrication experience in place of formal qualifications.

Highly Regarded

- Handrail and banister fabrication experience.
- Structural or tubular pipe fabrication experience.
- Disability-access product fabrication experience.
- Current driver's licence.
