Goldenlight Pty Ltd (Goldenlight Civil & Construction) has been operating in Canberra since 2018. We specialise in structural steel reinforcement, post-tensioning, formwork carpentry, prefabrication and structural welding for commercial, civil and residential projects across the ACT and surrounding NSW. Our recent work includes projects at Stromlo Forest College, Canberra Airport, Acton Pavilions, Gold Creek and Scrivener Dam.

With a robust pipeline of current and upcoming projects, we are looking for a qualified and experienced Welder (First Class) to join our prefabrication and site teams.

The role

This is a permanent, full-time position (38 hours per week) based at our Majura workshop, with work on construction sites across Canberra and the surrounding region as required. Your main duties will be:

- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, shop drawings, reinforcement schedules and welding procedure specifications
- Measuring, marking out, cutting and preparing steel sections, plates and reinforcing bar using hand and power tools, oxy-acetylene and plasma cutting equipment
- Welding structural steel, reinforcement cages, embedded plates and prefabricated components using MIG (GMAW), stick (MMAW) and flux-cored (FCAW) processes
- Fabricating and welding prefabricated steel and reinforcement components in the workshop, and carrying out site welding during installation
- Inspecting welds for defects and checking work against drawings, specifications and AS/NZS 1554 requirements
- Carrying out weld repairs and modifications to steel components on site
- Setting up, operating and maintaining welding, cutting and grinding equipment




- Following safe work method statements and WHS procedures, including hot work permits and working at heights where required
- Working with site supervisors, steel fixers and other trades to meet project schedules

About you

- Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (or equivalent trade qualification)
- At least 2 years of relevant post-qualification experience as a welder, preferably in structural steel or construction
- Demonstrated skills in MIG, stick and flux-cored welding in multiple positions
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and shop drawings
- Sound knowledge of WHS requirements for hot work and construction sites
- A valid White Card (Construction Induction) and a current Australian driver’s licence
- Good communication skills in English and the ability to work safely as part of a team
- Highly regarded: welding qualifications to AS/NZS 1554 or AS/NZS 2980, experience welding reinforcing steel, TIG (GTAW) welding experience, and forklift or EWP licences.
