Robert Walters is seeking an experienced Internal Auditor for an initial six-month contract with a large, established public sector organisation based in Perth CBD. This hands-on opportunity involves delivering risk-based internal audits, evaluating governance frameworks and internal controls, and providing practical recommendations to strengthen compliance and operational effectiveness.

The Prospect

Robert Walters is recruiting an experienced Internal Auditor to join a large, established public sector organisation on an initial six-month contract.

This is an excellent opportunity to work within a complex operational environment, conducting internal audits across a range of business functions and contributing to improvements in governance, risk management and internal controls.

The successful candidate will be confident managing the full audit lifecycle, from planning and risk assessment through to fieldwork, reporting and follow-up activities.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan, scope and deliver risk-based internal audits in accordance with established audit methodologies and professional standards.

- Review operational processes, governance arrangements and internal control frameworks to identify risks and areas for improvement.

- Conduct audit fieldwork, including stakeholder interviews, process walkthroughs, evidence gathering and control testing.

- Evaluate compliance with relevant legislation, policies, procedures and organisational requirements.

- Prepare detailed audit working papers, findings and reports, providing clear and practical recommendations.

- Engage with stakeholders to discuss audit outcomes and support the implementation of agreed improvement actions.

- Monitor outstanding audit recommendations and contribute to follow-up reviews.





- Support continuous improvement across internal audit processes and organisational practices.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

- Previous experience conducting internal audits within a government, corporate or professional services environment.

- Strong understanding of risk management, governance, compliance and internal control frameworks.

- Demonstrated ability to independently manage audits from planning through to reporting.

- Experience undertaking operational, compliance, performance or systems-based audits.

- Strong analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills.

- Excellent written communication skills, particularly in preparing audit reports and recommendations.

- Confidence engaging with stakeholders at varying levels of seniority.

- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.

Relevant tertiary qualifications in accounting, auditing, business or a related discipline will be advantageous. Professional qualifications such as CIA, CA or CPA will be highly regarded.
