The company you’ll join

This award-winning Australian business designs and supplies proprietary retail, e-commerce and food packaging for major brands - e.g. carry bags, online mailers, gift packaging and packaging accessories.

Their products are everywhere. If you’ve shopped at a major department store, supermarket or fashion retailer, or received an online order, chances are you’ve held their packaging. Key accounts include household-name national retailers and global brands with Australian head offices.

Sustainability is a genuine differentiator. FSC, GRS and GECA certifications are helping national brands move from plastic to paper at scale.

Operating for over 25 years, the business is financially strong in its own right and backed by a large multinational parent group. This combines the agility of a lean team with the resources to move quick when opportunity arises.

Their competitive edge is real. They’re substrate-agnostic (paper, plastic, reusable and beyond) and have multiple suppliers across every category, which delivers pricing and speed to market that single-substrate competitors can’t match.

Uniquely, their sales team is also their purchasing team.

The person who takes the customer brief deals directly with the factory, creating full supply chain transparency, faster turnarounds and stronger customer trust.

With decades-long supplier relationships, a new, expanded Melbourne facility and the full support of a local executive team and global parent, they are very well-positioned for their next phase of growth.

The impact you’ll make

An opportunity currently exists for a genuine hunter BDM to open doors and win a seat at the table with Australia’s biggest brands.

Initially, you’ll inherit three to four established national accounts. Each has a 10+ year relationship with the business, spanning both in-store and online channels.

Your own Assistant Account Manager handles day-to-day transactions, forecasting and factory ordering. That frees you to spend around 60-70% of your time on new business.

On the account side, you’ll meet clients regularly on new projects and seasonal packaging, introduce new services and negotiate with current and new suppliers for sharper pricing. You’ll also play a key role when supply agreements come up for renewal.

New business is the real focus, however. You’ll target national retailers, e-commerce companies, supermarkets and brand manufacturers across retail and food. New Zealand is also firmly on the radar, including travel when opportunities arise. You’ll assess a prospect’s current packaging for sustainability and fit for purpose - then strategically prospect, (using LinkedIn, cold outreach, expos and competitor insight) to reach Heads of Procurement, CFOs and Regional Managers,

and position the business for upcoming tenders.

Sales cycles are long and supply agreements are often multi-year. Early success is measured in meetings, qualified opportunities and tender invitations, and the full resources of the business are behind you to close.

If you’re based in Sydney, you’ll work from the parent group’s NSW head office, close to a strong key account base. If you’re based in Melbourne, you’ll travel regularly to Sydney and set the pace for the broader sales team.

The experience you’ll bring

To be considered for this role, you’ll bring:

- 3+ years’ relevant, new client acquisition focused sales experience - calling into Australia’s biggest retailers, supermarkets, e-commerce companies and/or food manufacturers at a national, head office level.

- Experience selling retail or food packaging is highly regarded, though not essential. Full technical product training is provided, and the team supports you once an opportunity is on the table.

- Alternatively, you’re selling FMCG, food and beverage, DIY or pharmaceutical products into the same retail markets at head office level. You’re comfortable engaging buyers, planners, procurement and finance, and negotiating shelf space and multi-year supply agreements.

- You can successfully navigate long-cycle, multi-stakeholder sales and tender processes, from first touch through to a signed supply agreement.

- Commercial confidence on both sides of the deal. You negotiate with suppliers on price as comfortably as you do with customers.

- Intangibly, you’ll bring the mindset and application to lead from the front. You’re self-driven, accountable, commercially sharp and happy to spend time on the road, with energy that lifts those around you.

On offer, a competitive base salary negotiable on experience, fully serviced company vehicle, phone, laptop and performance bonus. Interviewing now for an early 2027 start!
