Our Zushi Surry Hills venue, operated by Wakame Pty Ltd, is centrally located on Crown Street and offers a vibrant dining experience with indoor, outdoor, and private dining spaces.

We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced full‑time Chef to join our team at our Surry Hills location.

About the Role

This is a full‑time position responsible for leading and coordinating kitchen operations, preparing high‑quality dishes, and ensuring consistency in food standards in a fast‑paced, contemporary Japanese restaurant environment.

Key Responsibilities
Prepare and cook a variety of dishes in accordance with restaurant standards
Assist in menu planning and development, including seasonal updates
Ensure consistency in food quality, presentation, and portion control
Supervise and guide kitchen staff where required
Monitor food preparation and cooking processes
Manage stock levels, ordering supplies, and minimising waste
Ensure compliance with food safety standards and hygiene regulations




Inspect raw ingredients and ensure proper storage of food
Work collaboratively with front‑of‑house staff to ensure smooth service
Maintain a clean and organised kitchen environment

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Qualification:
Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, Diploma of Hospitality Management, or equivalent qualification

Experience & Skills:
At least 1–2 years of relevant work experience as a Chef
Robust knowledge of kitchen operations and food safety standards
Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
Valuable organisational and time management skills
A passion for food and delivering high‑quality dining experiences
