We're looking for a friendly, reliable and community-minded person to join MADEC as a Casual Regional Liaison Officer, supporting workers participating in the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme.
This is a unique chance to make a genuine difference for workers who have travelled from Pacific Island nations to live and work in Australia.
What will you be doing?
Alongside providing practical, pastoral and wellbeing support to PALM Scheme workers, you'll:
Assist with medical appointments, transport and accommodation needs
Assist with worker arrivals, inductions and departures
Conduct regular worker check-ins and accommodation inspections
Provide after-hours or emergency support when required
Respond promptly to emerging worker needs, assessing urgency and prioritising appropriate action
Manage competing demands and adapt quickly when circumstances or priorities change
Exercise sound judgement when navigating unexpected situations, knowing when to act independently and when to elevate
Maintain accurate records, complete incident reports and communicate promptly with MADEC's administration and support teams
Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure reporting and documentation requirements are completed, even when working remotely or out in the field
Who are we looking for?
You don't necessarily need a background in community services. We're looking for someone who is dependable, resourceful and confident taking responsibility, particularly when situations don't go quite to plan.
You'll bring:
A strong sense of urgency and accountability, with the ability to recognise what needs immediate attention and what can wait

Sound judgement and practical problem-solving skills, including the confidence to make decisions when there isn't an obvious or straightforward answer
Flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to reprioritise quickly as worker and operational needs change
A proactive, solutions-focused approach and willingness to take ownership of issues through to resolution
Strong communication skills and the ability to keep relevant people informed, particularly during time-sensitive situations
Good administrative and computer skills, with the ability to complete accurate, timely reports and documentation while working in the field
Empathy, cultural awareness and the ability to build trusted relationships
Strong local knowledge and confidence working independently
A current driver's licence and willingness to travel locally
Above all, we're looking for someone who can balance genuine care for people with the practical judgement, initiative and accountability needed to respond effectively when challenges arise.
A few important details
This is a casual position, with hours varying according to worker and operational needs.
As workers may occasionally require urgent or time-sensitive assistance, we're particularly interested in candidates who live in or very close to Lakeland and can provide prompt, face-to-face support when required.
Some availability outside standard business hours will be necessary.
If you're looking for flexible casual work that gets you out into your community and gives you the opportunity to genuinely help others, we'd love to hear from you.
