About the Role
This is an excellent locum opportunity for a PGY3+ Resident Medical Officer to join the General Medicine team in Cairns over the December and January period.

The placement runs from 14 December 2026 to 17 January 2027, providing an opportunity to gain experience within a busy regional tertiary hospital while working across a diverse general medical caseload.
The roster is to be confirmed and may include day, evening and night shifts, with some shifts potentially extending beyond eight hours. You will need to be comfortable working across a rotating roster and adapting to the demands of a busy hospital department.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide medical assessment and ongoing care for patients admitted under General Medicine.
- Assist with the assessment and management of patients presenting with a variety of acute and chronic medical conditions.
- Monitor patient progress and respond appropriately to changes in clinical presentation.
- Work collaboratively with consultants, registrars, nursing staff and allied health professionals.
- Contribute to clinical handovers, patient documentation and discharge planning.
- Coordinate investigations and support the implementation of treatment plans.




- Recognise clinical deterioration and escalate concerns to senior medical staff.
- Participate in rostered clinical duties as required by the department.

About You

- PGY3+ Resident Medical Officer.
- Current AHPRA registration.
- Previous hospital medical experience, ideally within General Medicine.
- Confident clinical assessment and patient management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Available to participate in a rotating roster, including days, evenings and nights.
- Adaptable, organised and comfortable managing competing clinical priorities.
