Senior Legal Counsel - Financial Regulatory Law (10 + Years)

An exciting opportunity for a Senior Legal Counsel to join one of worlds leading advisory and wealth management platforms.

Role

This role will report into the General Counsel and see you work closely with 4 other members of the team. They operate with a relatively flat structure, meaning you will have regular exposure to senior management and executives.

Responsibilities

- Senior financial services lawyer with 10-15 years' PQE and strong regulatory experience, ideally gained in private banking, wealth management, investment management, financial advice or another similarly regulated financial institution.
- Broad corporate and commercial capability, including contracts, transactions and regulated financial services matters.
- Pragmatic, commercially minded adviser with strong judgment and confidence engaging senior stakeholders.
- Hands-on, adaptable self-starter who can work autonomously across a broad range of legal issues.
- Provide strategic and commercially focused advice on Australian financial services regulation and regulatory obligations pertaining to private banking, wealth management, investment management and other regulated products.
- Advise on the Corporations Act, AFSL requirements,



ASIC guidance and other relevant financial services legislation.
- Support the development, structuring and launch of new products, features and customer propositions.
- Advise on regulatory change and its impact on the business.
- Work closely with Compliance and Risk on regulatory issues, governance and legal risk.
- Support engagement with regulators and external legal advisers.
- Work directly with senior business stakeholders and translate complex regulatory requirements into practical commercial solutions.
- Assist with broader legal and commercial matters as the Australian business continues to grow.

Ideal Candidate

- Australian-qualified lawyer with 10+ years' PQE with strong financial services regulatory exposure from either in-house or private practice.
- Strong understanding of Australian financial services regulation and the AFSL framework. Our client will consider broader corporate lawyers with a financial services overlay.
- Commercial and pragmatic, with an ability to find solutions rather than simply identify legal issues.
- Comfortable working directly with senior stakeholders and product teams.
- Agile, curious and capable of solving complex problems in a fast-moving setting.
