Role Summary

We are seeking a reliable Trades Assistant / Truck Driver to support our factory operations and project delivery team. This hands-on role involves assisting with the fabrication and preparation of architectural stairs, loading and unloading materials, and transporting steelwork and stair components to sites across Melbourne. The position is ideal for someone who enjoys a mix of factory work, logistics, and practical trade support.

Key Responsibilities

Factory & Production Support

- Assisting fabrication staff with the preparation and assembly of stair and steel components.
- Operating hand and power tools for cutting, drilling, grinding, and general fabrication support.
- Preparing materials for fabrication, painting, and transport.
- Assisting with pre-assembly and quality checks of fabricated items.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised workshop.

Transport & Deliveries

- Driving company trucks (LR/MR) to deliver materials and fabricated stair components to sites across Melbourne.
- Loading, unloading, and securing materials safely for transport.
- Coordinating deliveries with factory and site teams.
- Conducting daily vehicle checks and reporting maintenance requirements.
- Assisting with site deliveries and occasional installation support where required.

Qualifications

- Current LR or MR Truck Licence (essential).
- Current Australian Driver Licence (essential).
- Forklift Licence (preferred).
- EWP, or Working at Heights tickets are advantageous.





Skills & Attributes

- Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Ability to work safely in a factory and construction environment.
- Physically fit and capable of manual handling tasks.
- Reliable, punctual, and organised.
- Good communication skills and ability to work within a team.
- Experience in steel fabrication, construction, or manufacturing environments is advantageous but not essential.
- Ability to follow instructions and work with attention to detail.

Additional Information

Location: Based at Fabcon's factory in Bayswater, with regular deliveries throughout Melbourne.

Hours: Start time 6:00am, Monday to Friday. Minimum 7.6-hour day. Overtime available as required. Early starts are required (5am).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $32.00 – $42.00 per hour

- Trade Assistant: 5 years (Required)
- Delivery driver: 3 years (Preferred)
