The Opportunity

Production Packaging is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Machine Operator to join our production team in Point Cook.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, understands machinery and takes pride in producing quality work.

You won’t be stuck operating the same machine every day. PPI manufactures corrugated cardboard packaging across a range of processes, giving you the chance to develop your skills across printing, die cutting, gluing, mounting and finishing equipment.

If you already have experience in cardboard, packaging, printing, die cutting or gluing, we’d particularly like to hear from you. If you come from another manufacturing environment but have strong machine aptitude and the right attitude, PPI is prepared to train the right person.

What’s in it for you?

- $35–$40 per hour, depending on experience
- Full-time, permanent opportunity
- Monday to Friday, 6:30am–2:30pm
- Regular overtime opportunities during busy periods
- Occasional weekend work available
- Quarterly team bonus opportunity when company targets are achieved
- Free onsite parking
- Learn and become competent across multiple machines
- Hands-on training from experienced operators
- Genuine opportunity to develop your technical skills and progress
- Small production team of around 10 people where your contribution is noticed
- Regular team BBQs and employee recognition initiatives

PPI believes in sharing success with its team. When quarterly company targets are achieved, eligible employees share in a team bonus.

What will you be doing?

You’ll work across PPI’s production process, setting up and operating machinery used to manufacture corrugated cardboard packaging.
Your responsibilities will include:

- Setting up, operating and monitoring production machinery
- Running jobs to production and quality specifications
- Flexographic printing using water-based inks
- Flat-bed and rotary die cutting

- Cold glue and hot-melt gluing
- Mounting, finishing and general box-making processes
- Working with equipment including BOBST die cutters and specialty gluers and Lamina mounting and gluing equipment
- Checking finished products and maintaining quality standards
- Troubleshooting production and machine issues
- Undertaking basic machine maintenance
- Preparing and strapping completed pallets
- Learning additional machinery and supporting other areas of production as required

This is a hands-on manufacturing role. Machines are hand-fed and the work involves standing for extended periods, bending, moving materials and regular manual handling of up to approximately 20kg. Some machinery also requires hearing protection.

About you

We’re looking for someone with good machine aptitude, initiative and pride in their work.
You’ll ideally have:

- Previous machine operating or manufacturing experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude and confidence working with machinery
- Experience in cardboard, packaging, printing, die cutting or gluing would be highly regarded
- A practical approach to troubleshooting and problem solving
- The ability to complete basic machine maintenance, or the willingness to learn
- A proactive attitude and willingness to look for what needs doing next
- Strong attention to quality and detail
- The ability to work effectively in a small team
- The physical capability to undertake the requirements of the role
- A reliable and safety-focused approach to work
- A forklift licence would be advantageous, but is not essential

Just as importantly,

you’ll be someone who wants to learn, contribute and get involved. PPI is a small team, so they’re looking for someone who works well with others and takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do next.

Grow your skills

For the right person, there is plenty of opportunity to develop.
PPI wants its operators to become skilled across multiple machines. Over time, you could build your capability across the production floor, develop your machine maintenance skills and potentially assist with training other operators.
If you’re looking for a role where you can become a genuinely skilled and versatile Machine Operator, rather than being limited to one repetitive process, this could be a great fit.

Hours

Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 6:30am–2:30pm.
During busy periods, the team may commence at 5:30am to accommodate overtime. Additional weekend work may also be available from time to time.

To Apply

If you’re an experienced Machine Operator, or have strong manufacturing experience and the aptitude to learn, we’d love to hear from you.
