About ACRI
The Academy of Cooperative Research Infrastructure (ACRI) is an independent, not-for-profit, organisation established in 2023 to serve the research infrastructure community.
ACRI was established to address a critical gap in the support and recognition of research infrastructure specialists within the higher education and research sectors. These professionals, who blend technical expertise with essential business and customer service skills, are vital to advancing research. Yet traditional career paths in academia often fail to acknowledge their unique contributions, leading to challenges in career progression and talent retention.
The Academy was created in response to the long-standing challenge of how best to develop and nurture the research infrastructure workforce. ACRI represents a dedicated voice and community for research infrastructure specialists. Its purpose is to advocate for clear career progression paths, tailor professional development opportunities to the specific needs of the workforce and foster a community of peers for effective knowledge diffusion.
About NCRIS and Microscopy Australia
The National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) is an Australian Government program that funds and coordinates major scientific facilities, equipment, and digital platforms across the country. It supports over two dozen active projects spanning supercomputing, biotech, and environmental monitoring, connecting thousands of researchers and industry experts to drive innovation.
Microscopy Australia empowers Australian science and innovation by making advanced microscopes accessible to all researchers. It is a consortium of university-based microscopy facilities united by values of collaboration, accessibility, excellence and innovation. Each year, over 4,000 researchers from universities and industry use our instruments and expertise in facilities around Australia. Moreover, 150,000 trainee microscopists around the world use our online training tools. On behalf of the national research infrastructure workforce, Microscopy Australia together with ACRI, secured NCRIS investment to fund a program of activity that will recognise and further develop the said workforce. It is the lead agent in administrating the NCRIS funding.
