Introduction to the role

We are seeking a Field Service Technician to join our Service Operations Support team. This role combines hands‑on mechanical work with technical problem-solving and customer support between the client, product division and our sales team. Your role plays a crucial part in performing and coordinating service activities relating to our machines, spares and wears - keeping our clientsoperating at full capacity.
This position is located in Mackay, and you will report to the Field Service Manager - East.

Main responsibilities

- Complete field machine inspections
- Provide hands‑on mechanical service work in the field to Metso customers
- Provide technical liaison services between customers, product divisions and sales personnel




- Perform technical evaluations and analyse equipment and machine component failures
- Understand drawings and schematics to ensure correct processes are followed
- Supervise and oversee Field Service projects on customer sites
- Escalate questions and analysis to Technical Support and Engineering
- Support quotation work by providing scope of work, initial planning and costing information
- Promote products and services to customers
- Prepare post site reports, timesheets and expenses after site visits
- Promote Technical Support value add and support Technical Support Teams
- Some Interstate and some international travel may apply. This role comes with some physical work requirements.

To succeed

Essential

- A Mechanical trade qualification from college or technical school, OR Three to six years relevant experience and/or training Demonstrate understanding and compliance to safety regulation and standards
- Physically fit and able to pass a medical, with no site restrictions to perform duties
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical schematics
- Ability to travel within short notice
- Understanding operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to read and understand a variety of written instructions




- Ability to complete basic engineering calculations such as basic algebra, geometry etc.
- Provide standard hand tools applicable to task
- Current driver’s license

Desirable

- Basic rigging and dogging understanding
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence (Word, Excel)
