The Opportunities
These EL1 Audit and Risk Manager positions support recruitment for several vacancies across DFAT’s internal audit and enterprise risk functions. Successful candidates will be placed in either an Internal Audit Manager role in the Internal Audit Branch or a Risk Manager role in the Enterprise Risk section, depending on business requirements, candidate skills and organisational priorities.
Internal Audit Managers lead complex risk-based audit, assurance and advisory engagements, assessing governance, risk, control, compliance and performance arrangements and developing practical, evidence-based findings and recommendations. Risk Managers support the effective implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of DFAT’s enterprise risk management framework, including risk identification, assessment, escalation, reporting and treatment, and periodic review of the department’s risk management policy to align with legislative and policy requirements.
Across both role types, EL1 managers work with significant autonomy and professional judgement, provide authoritative advice to senior executives, lead small teams and internal or external contributors,
build organisational capability, and promote stronger governance, accountability and risk-informed decision-making.

- Lead and develop staff, coordinate internal or external contributors, manage concurrent priorities, and deliver high-quality outcomes to agreed timeframes.
- Contribute to branch priorities, continuous improvement, skilled practice, governance maturity and organisational capability in internal audit, assurance or enterprise risk management.
