About Us
Birra Li is the Aboriginal maternal and infant health unit servicing the greater Newcastle area.
Birra
Li is an Aboriginal Maternal and Infant Health Service supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, children and their families across the greater Newcastle area. Our dedicated multidisciplinary team provides culturally safe, holistic and family-centred care from pregnancy through to when children commence school at five years of age.
Community engagement is at the heart of everything we do. We pride ourselves on building strong, trusting relationships with women, families and the wider Aboriginal community. We are looking for someone who shares our passion for improving health outcomes for Aboriginal families, values culturally safe care and has a strong connection to Country and community.
Birra Li offers a modern workspace and a welcoming, supportive team with a strong sense of culture and community. We pride ourselves on our connections with local Aboriginal communities and encourage staff to strengthen their connection to Mob, Country and culture through community events, engagement and partnerships. Our team values collaboration, cultural identity and creating a workplace where everyone feels supported and connected.
About The Role The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the smooth day-to-day operations of Birra Li.
Working both independently and collaboratively as part of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for coordinating daily administrative tasks, managing staff rosters, processing referrals and supporting the overall organisation of the service.
We are looking for someone who is organised, adaptable and proactive, with strong communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy healthcare environment. You will work closely with clinical and administrative staff to ensure our service continues to provide timely, efficient and culturally safe care to women, children and their families.
You will be supported by the Birra Li Clinical Team Leader for day-to-day operational matters, alongside the Maternity and Gynaecology Outpatient Administration Team Leader for administrative guidance and role-specific support.
About You
Our ideal candidate will have strong teamwork, verbal communication and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, work independently and adapt to the changing needs of the service. A positive attitude, initiative and willingness to learn are highly valued. Knowledge of online ordering systems and day-to-day service operations can be developed on the job, with training and ongoing support provided.
A qualification in Business Administration or a related field would be highly regarded but is not essential. We value candidates who demonstrate robust organisational and communication skills, a willingness to learn and a genuine passion for supporting Aboriginal women, children and their families.
How You'll Be Supported The successful candidate will receive a comprehensive orientation to Birra Li, including an introduction to the team, service operations and administrative processes. Online HETI training will be available,
alongside ongoing guidance and support from the Birra Li Clinical Team Leader and the Maternity and Gynaecology Outpatient Administration team. Opportunities for further learning and professional development will also be encouraged.
