Help preserve and share the history of student life at UWA

The UWA Student Guild has a rich history of student representation, advocacy, publications, events and traditions. Our archives tell the stories of generations of students and the important role they've played in shaping the University and wider community. We're looking for an organised, enthusiastic and capable Archivist to help preserve this history while ensuring our physical and digital records are well managed, accessible and protected for the future.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a diverse archival collection, contribute to exciting historical projects and help shape how the Guild manages its records into the future.

About the role

Working within the Guild's Student Services team, you'll be responsible for maintaining and developing our physical and digital archives, supporting positive records-management practices and helping staff, students, alumni and researchers access historical material. A key focus will be supporting an upcoming relocation of our physical archives, ensuring collections are appropriately documented, protected and remain accessible throughout the process.

You'll also contribute to the Guild's Record Keeping Plan and support projects celebrating its history, including our iconic Pelican magazine, PROSH and Guild Council records.

Key responsibilities

- Manage, organise and preserve the Guild's physical and digital archival collections.
- Support the relocation and reorganisation of archival material, including inventories, tracking and storage arrangements.
- Maintain and improve archival registers, catalogues and digital records to make collections easier to find and access.
- Support implementation and review of the Guild's Record Keeping Plan, including appropriate retention, disposal and records-management practices.
- Identify opportunities to digitise significant historical collections and improve access.
- Support historical research and special projects,

particularly relating to Pelican, PROSH and the Guild's history.
- Respond to archival enquiries from Guild staff, students, alumni and external researchers.
- Work with internal teams and external partners, including UWA Archives and specialist digitisation services.

About you

We're looking for someone who combines attention to detail with a practical approach to organising information and managing projects. Ideally, you'll bring:
- Qualifications in archives, records and information management, library or heritage studies, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience managing, cataloguing or preserving physical and digital collections.
- An understanding of contemporary archival practices, recordkeeping requirements and retention and disposal processes.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and prioritise competing activities.
- Confidence using digital records systems and Microsoft 365 applications.
- Good communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders.
- An interest in history, research and preserving stories of community significance.

Experience with records-management requirements in Western Australia, archival relocation projects or digitisation would be highly regarded.

Why join the Guild?

This is an opportunity to work with a unique collection that reflects more than a century of student life, culture, advocacy and community involvement. You'll have the chance to make a real difference in how our history is preserved and shared, improve access to important collections and help establish sustainable records-management practices for the future.

If you enjoy bringing order to complex collections, uncovering historical stories and making information accessible to others, we'd love to hear from you.
