As a governing Board, members contribute to the Commission's strategic direction, oversight and effective governance, drawing on their qualified expertise and experience to inform collective decision-making.
Expressions of interest are sought from individuals of exceptional professional standing who bring substantial experience and recognised expertise, particularly in one or more of the following areas:

- Nursing leadership and clinical excellence – senior nursing leadership experience, bringing a strategic, system-wide perspective on healthcare delivery, patient safety, clinical standards, workforce challenges and the continuous improvement of quality and care across diverse healthcare settings. Of particular interest are individuals who have influenced clinical governance, healthcare policy and quality improvement at a state or national level.
- Digital health, technology and innovation – a strategic understanding of how digital health, data,
emerging technologies and artificial intelligence are transforming healthcare delivery. This includes the opportunities to improve quality, safety, accessibility and patient outcomes, while ensuring appropriate clinical governance and supporting safe, effective and integrated models of care.
- Public administration in relation to health care – senior-level experience in public administration, including government policy, public sector governance, accountability and working within complex legislative and institutional frameworks.
Candidates will demonstrate substantial executive or board experience, strategic judgement, intellectual rigour and the ability to contribute constructively to complex decisions affecting the quality and safety of healthcare nationally. They will bring strong governance capabilities, the highest standards of integrity and an appreciation of the challenges and opportunities facing Australia's health system.
Appointments will be made in accordance with section 20 of the National Health Reform Act 2011. To be eligible, candidates must have substantial experience or knowledge and significant standing in at least one of the fields specified under section 20(3).
The Australian Government is committed to ensuring its boards reflect the diversity of the Australian community. Expressions of interest are welcomed from women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disability, and individuals from regional and remote Australia.
These appointments provide a unique opportunity to influence national healthcare priorities, shape the future delivery of healthcare and contribute to ongoing improvements in safety, quality and patient outcomes across Australia's healthcare system.
