About the role -

The White Whale team is looking to fill three vacant Barista roles with energetic and highly motivated specialty coffee professionals.

As a Barista, you will take a leading role in our coffee program, with a focus on upholding the quality and efficiency of coffee preparation and driving product innovation. You will be an engaging coffee educator, with a love for inspiring, motivating and sharing your knowledge with the team of baristas around you. You will prefer giving out stars rather than receiving them and will genuinely feel joy when the team and business are thriving.

Despite your years of experience,



you will still love the buzz of a rush on the bar and enjoy meaningfully engaging with customers to ensure they receive the best coffee experience possible.

When not working on the bar, you will be completing a range of tasks, from heading up QC cupping sessions, assisting the management team with green bean buying, or innovating and developing coffee products, techniques and strategies. You will act as a vital link between the General Manager and Head Roaster, providing valuable analysis and feedback. Successful candidates will have a solid growth mindset with the ability to shape and continually develop this role as the business grows.

This position will suit someone who is ready and willing to put as much into the role as they receive from the business in return.

The Barista role(s) will include, but are not limited to -

- Develop, upskill, and manage a team of baristas to create a cohesive, highly efficient, and engaged team.

- Deliver a genuine, efficient and top-tier coffee experience to each and every customer.

- Drive business growth by creating an outstanding and innovative hospitality experience.

- Work closely with the roasting team, heading QC cuppings, driving product development, implementing and fine-tuning recipes, and maintaining standards with a full communication feedback loop to the General Manager and Head Roaster.





- Actively assist with green bean purchasing selections.

- Be willing to carry out production roasting when needed.

- Ensure WH&S; standards are maintained throughout the space.

What we are looking for -

- Experience and in-depth knowledge of specialty coffee; Q-grader, cupping, barista competition, barista training, and/or roasting experience is highly advantageous.

- Proven leadership and team-building skills.

- A love of people and customer service.

- Strong time management and organizational skills.

- Growth mindset.

Key details -

- Reports to the General Manager & Business Owners

- Full-time - working hours between 5am-2pm

- Salary: $66,000 - $70,000 depending on experience

- These positions are eligible for employee sponsorship under the Far North Queensland Designated Area Migration Agreement (FNQ DAMA).

Please note – White Whale Coffee Roasters is located in Cairns, Far North Queensland, where it is hot and humid most of the year, with high rainfall. There is no public transport to our location, and 5 AM starts are required.
