About us
Arena Engineering is a locally owned, ISO 9001:2015 certified machining and fabrication business in Garbutt, Townsville. We're looking for a confident CNC machinist who can set up and run CNC lathes and mills.
About the role
This is a full-time, permanent role in our Carmel Street machine shop. Day to day you'll be:
- Setting up and operating Fanuc and Okuma controlled CNC lathes and mills
- Loading and running supplied CNC programs, and making adjustments at the control to suit the job
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
- Selecting tooling, feeds and speeds for a range of materials
- Measuring and inspecting components to drawing tolerances
- Doing routine machine maintenance and keeping a safe, tidy workspace
- Working with the rest of the team to meet deadlines and quality requirements
About you
- Confident setting up and running CNC lathes and mills on your own, from first-off to finished batch
- Trade qualification in fitter and turner, or solid CNC machining experience
- Strong drawing interpretation and precision measuring skills
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Reliable, and committed to safe work and quality workmanship
You don't need programming experience – programs are supplied, and we'll teach you. Experience on Fanuc or Okuma controls, GibbsCAM or manual machining would be an advantage but isn't essential.
