Shape the commercial engine of a major Australian steelmaking coal business.
Pembroke Olive Downs is transforming. Our mine in Queensland’s Bowen Basin is producing the high-quality steelmaking coal the world needs, and our commercial agreements underpin all of it, from contractors and suppliers to infrastructure, landholders and financiers.
We’re looking for a commercially sharp, legally literate leader to step in as Manager, Commercial Services on a 6-month fixed-term contract. This is a high impact, hands‑on role with real visibility at a senior level, and a genuine opportunity to make the position your own, with the potential to move to a permanent role.
The role
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, you’ll lead our legal and commercial services function, bringing together contracts, claims, procurement and legal liaison under one explicit commercial lens. You will:
- Lead the end‑to‑end contract lifecycle, from drafting and negotiation through execution, renewal and performance monitoring
- Act as primary interface with external legal advisors, directing instructions, scope and spend
- Provide commercial input into deal structuring, pricing and risk allocation on major contracts and tenders
- Manage claims (insurance, contractual, warranty and third‑party) and recommend smart resolution strategies
- Oversee procurement, including tenders and RFx processes, approval of significant supply and service terms, and finding cost‑saving opportunities
- Strengthen commercial governance through templates, playbooks, risk registers and clear reporting to leadership
- Contribute to Board and SLT papers on legal and commercial risk
About you
You’re equally at home reading a contract clause and commercial position. You bring:
- A law degree, commercial qualification or equivalent experience (you don’t need to be a practising lawyer, but solid legal literacy is essential)
- Significant experience in commercial, contract or project commercial leadership within mining, resources, infrastructure, energy or major projects
- Advanced negotiation skills and a proven track record in claims and dispute management
- A solid grasp of procurement and commercial governance
- Sharp attention to detail, balanced by pragmatic, business‑focused judgement
- The confidence to influence senior stakeholders, operational teams and external parties alike
A postgraduate qualification in law, commerce, business or project management, or experience in strategic transactions, will set you apart. Why this role?
- Immediate impact: step into a role where your work directly shapes commercial outcomes on strategic agreements
- Senior exposure: work closely with the CFO and leadership team on matters that matter
- Breadth: contracts, claims, procurement and legal liaison in one role, so no two weeks are the same
- A pathway forward: a 6‑month term with real potential to become permanent for the right person
- Brisbane based, with connection to a Queensland resources operation
