Breast Cancer Care WA is seeking a suitably qualified counsellor or social worker to provide support to clients and their families affected by a diagnosis of breast cancer. This position will be casual, with a minimum of 10 hours per week of work, with the opportunity to increase these depending on client need. The successful applicant will have excellent counselling, interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to handle complex counselling scenarios, prioritise workloads and work independently within a small team setting.
Key responsibilities
- Face-to-face (home, hospital and office), telephone and online counselling for individuals, couples, families and groups
- Provide coping strategies and material resources
- Develop, coordinate and facilitate support groups
- Provide appropriate referrals as required
About you
- Tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology or counselling with at least three (3)
years' experience
- Member of relevant professional association
- Experience and demonstrated ability in the provision of counselling, including conducting initial assessments, face to face, telephone and online counselling, preferably in oncology
- Experience in group facilitation, including knowledge of group-work processes and demonstrated ability to plan, facilitate and review groups
- Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
- High level verbal and written communication skills
- Current WA drivers' licence and reliable motor vehicle
- Desirable: Demonstrated knowledge of the WA health care system and community relevant resources
- Desirable: Previous experience in women's health or oncology
