About the Opportunity

We are seeking a passionate and analytically minded Data Analyst to join a leading global financial services organisation in Sydney.

This is an excellent opportunity for an emerging data professional with approximately 18-24 months of commercial experience who is keen to develop their career within investment banking. The role combines hands-on data analysis, transaction investigation, dashboard development and reporting, with a strong focus on identifying inconsistencies, understanding their root causes and improving data integrity.

You will work with complex financial and transactional datasets, helping identify errors, unusual activity, potential fraud indicators and non-compliant transactions.

Key Responsibilities

- Data Analysis & Investigation: Deep dive into large transactional datasets to identify anomalies, inconsistencies, unusual patterns and potential risks.
- Root Cause Analysis: Investigate discrepancies to determine whether they arise from processing errors, data quality issues, control weaknesses or potentially fraudulent or non-compliant activity.
- Dashboarding & Reporting: Develop and maintain dashboards, reports and visualisations to highlight trends, exceptions, transaction anomalies and key risk indicators.
- Transaction Monitoring: Analyse financial transactions to identify unusual activity, potential compliance breaches and opportunities to strengthen controls.
- Data Quality & Process Improvement: Identify recurring issues, recommend improvements and support initiatives to reduce errors and strengthen data integrity.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Operations, Finance, Risk, Compliance and Technology teams to investigate findings and communicate actionable insights.
- Regulatory & Compliance Support: Assist with reporting,



investigations and analysis relating to financial crime prevention, regulatory obligations and internal controls.

Essential Skills:

- Approximately 18-24 months of commercial experience in data analysis, reporting, business intelligence or a related analytical role.
- Strong analytical skills, with the curiosity and persistence to investigate complex data issues.
- Experience working with large datasets, identifying inconsistencies and conducting root cause analysis.
- Solid Excel skills and an understanding of data manipulation, reconciliation and reporting.
- Ability to communicate analytical findings clearly to business stakeholders.
- Genuine enthusiasm for data analytics, problem-solving and developing a career in investment banking.

Highly Regarded:

- Python experience for data analysis, automation and investigation.
- Exposure to dashboarding and visualisation platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.
- SQL skills for querying and analysing transactional data.
- Understanding of Anti-Money Laundering (AML), financial crime, transaction monitoring or regulatory compliance.
- Previous experience in banking, financial services, fintech or another data-intensive environment.
