Whitty Engineering is a family-owned engineering business delivering mechanical design, fabrication and industrial solutions across timber, construction, housing and industrial sectors. With over 60 staff and a contemporary Mount Gambier workshop, they design and manufacture equipment for rugged industrial applications.

They are seeking a Draftsperson / Mechanical Designer to join their Mount Gambier-based team, and will consider candidates at both Experienced and Trainee levels. These roles suit people who enjoy 2D/3D design, mechanical problem-solving and producing accurate drawings for fabrication and assembly.

About the Roles

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will support the creation of mechanical designs, drawings and documentation for industrial equipment and components.

Key Responsibilities

· Develop, check and revise 3D CAD models for heavy industrial product design.

· Produce 2D structural and fabrication drawings.

· Create manufacturing drawings for components and assemblies.

· Assist with modification, installation and fabrication drawings.

· Generate Bills of Material and proposal drawings.

· Review specifications, sketches and data to support design decisions.

· Assist with layout, schematic, orthographic and assembly views.

· Support engineers, project managers and workshop supervisors.

· Uphold WHS and quality management requirements.





Additional Responsibilities (Experienced Draftsperson / Designer)

· Independently produce complex mechanical designs and fabrication packs.

· Identify design improvements and resolve drafting issues.

· Liaise with production teams to ensure manufacturability.

· Contribute to continuous improvement of drafting standards and processes.

About You

Experienced Draftsperson / Designer

· Experience in mechanical or industrial drafting.

· Diploma or Certificate III in Engineering – Technical.

· Strong CAD capability (AutoCAD, Inventor) and a passion for design and mechanical drafting

· High attention to detail and willingness to learn.

· Ability to interpret specifications and produce accurate fabrication drawings.

· Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Trainee Draftsperson

· Certificate III in Engineering - Technical (or willingness to undertake).

· Enthusiastic about CAD, design and mechanical drafting.

· High attention to detail and willingness to learn.
