Experienced in roofing, scaffolding or hands-on construction work? Ready to lead a small crew and help us grow?

Port City Roofing is seeking a practical, dependable Leading Hand to take charge of our edge protection crew. You’ll work alongside one to two labourers, installing and dismantling edge protection across our roofing projects in Townsville and the surrounding region.

You don’t need to arrive as an edge protection specialist. We can provide training for someone with substantial hands-on experience, sound judgement and the maturity to lead a crew safely and effectively.

The chance

We’re a busy, growing local roofing business with plans to expand our edge protection capability and run multiple crews next year. This role offers scope to take on broader leadership responsibility as that part of the business grows.

It could suit an experienced roofer looking for a change, a scaffolder, or someone from fabrication or another practical trade who enjoys physical work and is ready for responsibility.

What you’ll do

- Install and dismantle edge protection systems to specification and site safety requirements.
- Lead a small crew, organise daily tasks and work alongside them on the tools.
- Ensure equipment is ready for each job and properly maintained.

- Lead safe work practices and complete required site safety documentation.
- Coordinate with site supervisors and our office team.
- Assist with basic roofing tasks when required.

What you’ll bring

- Substantial labouring, construction or trade experience.
- Confidence and experience working at heights.
- The maturity to make sound decisions, give clear direction and take ownership.
- A reliable, punctual approach and a strong commitment to safety.
- Construction White Card, Working at Heights ticket and Basic Scaffolding ticket.

Experience in roofing, scaffolding, edge protection or metal fabrication will be highly regarded. Specific edge protection training can be provided to the right person.

What we offer

- Full-time employment with an established Townsville roofing business.
- A hands-on leadership role with support from our General Manager and office team.
- Training in our edge protection systems and installation methods.
- Scope to grow into broader crew leadership as we expand.

Apply through SEEK with your résumé and a brief note outlining your relevant experience and why this role appeals to you.
