About the role

Blackheath and Thornburgh College is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated English Teacher to join our secondary education team. This is a full-time position based at our campus in Charters Towers, QLD 4820. As an English Teacher, you will play a vital role in inspiring students to develop strong communication skills, critical thinking abilities, and a lifelong appreciation for literature and language.

This position is central to our mission of delivering high-quality secondary education and fostering academic excellence across the English curriculum.

Key responsibilities

- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging English lessons to secondary students across various year levels

- Develop and implement comprehensive teaching strategies that cater to diverse learning needs and promote student engagement

- Create and manage assessment tasks including written work, practical assessments and examinations to evaluate student progress

- Provide constructive feedback to students on their written and oral work to support their development

- Collaborate with colleagues to develop consistent approaches to curriculum delivery and pastoral care

- Participate in curriculum development and review processes to ensure content remains current and relevant

- Contribute to whole-school initiatives including literacy programs and special events

- Maintain a positive and supportive classroom workplace that promotes student wellbeing and academic success

What we're looking for

- Tertiary teaching qualifications and current teacher registration (or eligibility) as required by QCT

- Demonstrated knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and contemporary teaching methodologies

- Strong subject matter expertise in English literature, language analysis,



creative writing and communication skills

- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

- Proven ability to create inclusive and supportive learning environments that cater to students with varying abilities
