Take ownership of an established rigging department in one of Australia’s best sailing destinations!
Quadrant Marine Chandlery & Rigging is seeking a highly experienced, reliable and knowledgeable yacht rigger to independently manage our rigging department.
This is a hands-on position with a high level of autonomy and responsibility, combining technical rigging work with the complete day-to-day management of the department.
We service private yacht owners, commercial operators and Whitsundays bareboat charter companies, where safety, quality workmanship and professional reliability are essential.
The Role:
You will independently manage all aspects of the rigging department, including:
- Rig inspections, assessments, repairs, replacements, installations, complete re-rigs and mast work.
- Customer enquiries, technical advice and communication with private and commercial clients.
- Quoting, pricing, job costing, scheduling and managing workloads.
- Purchasing, stock management and supplier relationships.
- Managing jobs from initial enquiry through to completion, including documentation, insurance reports and invoicing.
- Maintaining exceptional safety standards and ensuring all inspections and work are completed thoroughly and professionally.
You’ll generally work independently, with additional assistance available for certain jobs when required.
Experience & Skills Required:
We are looking for an experienced professional with:
- Extensive yacht rigging experience and excellent knowledge of sailing vessels.
- Expertise in standing and running rigging, mast systems, fittings and deck hardware.
- Experience with complete re-rigs, rig inspections, fault identification and working safely aloft.
- Advanced ropework and splicing skills across different rope types and applications, including custom lines and soft shackles.
- Experience manufacturing wire rigging, stainless steel safety lines and operating swaging equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of sailing equipment, including winches, furling systems, blocks, travellers, sail handling systems and rope selection.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to independently manage customers, quotes, purchasing and jobs.
- Excellent attention to detail, sound professional judgement and a robust commitment to safety.
Experience dealing with commercial charter operators is highly valued.
Our commercial customers depend on accurate rig inspections, reliable repairs and timely service. You must understand the safety, insurance and liability responsibilities involved and be confident standing behind your assessments and workmanship.
What We Offer:
The opportunity to independently run and develop an established rigging department.
- A dedicated rigging shed equipped with specialist tools, swaging machinery and professional rigging equipment.
- A small, established marine business with a strong local customer base.
- The opportunity to live and work in the beautiful Whitsundays.
- Australia-wide applications welcome.
- Temporary accommodation may be available for the right candidate relocating to the area.
How To Apply:
Please email your CV and a brief introduction outlining your rigging experience, technical skills and ability to independently manage a rigging department.
At least two professional references are required, preferably previous employers, vessel owners or marine industry contacts who can verify your experience and workmanship.
