Position Overview

As a Financial Lines Senior Underwriter at Sompo, you will play a pivotal role in driving the growth, profitability, and strategic development of our Financial Lines portfolio in Australia. The role will lead Sompo’s market entry into the Cyber and Technology Liability segments, combining technical underwriting excellence with product development, portfolio management, and the delivery of tailored solutions for brokers and clients.

Key Responsibilities

- Portfolio Management: Develop and execute plans for the Financial & Professional Lines portfolio in Australia leading the Cyber and Technology Liability market entry, ensuring long-term profitable and sustainable growth.
- Underwriting: Underwrite financial lines products focusing on Cyber and Technology Liability products, evaluating risk exposures, pricing, and coverage terms in alignment with underwriting strategy and market conditions.
- Product Development: Lead the development and implementation of Sompo’s local Cyber and Technology Liability product suite in Australia, working closely with internal stakeholders across underwriting, claims, legal, actuarial, compliance, operations, and international product teams to deliver market-relevant and commercially sustainable products.
- Market Development: Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and other intermediaries to drive business growth and ensure high client satisfaction.
- Data-Driven Insights: Monitor portfolio performance,



analyzing metrics such as loss ratios, hit ratios, and renewal retention rates to identify opportunities and risks.
- Strategy & Innovation: Contribute to the development of underwriting philosophy, pricing strategy, and product offerings for the Financial Lines portfolio.
- Market Representation: Actively represent and promote the Sompo brand and underwriting philosophy within the financial lines market, maintaining a deep understanding of market trends and competitive landscapes.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Stay informed on regulatory requirements and market changes, ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines and compliance standards.

Requirements

- 10 years’ experience in underwriting financial lines products
- Strong track record of developing and managing profitable portfolios.
- In-depth knowledge of the insurance industry and financial lines underwriting principles.
- Ability to operate autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Degree in Business, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
