About Us
We're Wield, an early-stage, venture-backed team building something new in the monetization infrastructure space founded by ex-Canva alumni and based in Surry Hills. We can't tell you exactly what it is yet, but we can tell you what it feels like: a hard, real-world problem, a product people will rely on every day, and a small team where every engineer shapes the foundations. We've raised a significant seed round, we're backed by top-tier US and Australian investors, and we're hiring our first 10 engineers in Sydney.

The Role
You'll join our frontend while it's still early and full of big decisions, and own the experience at one of the highest-leverage moments in any software product. On the surface it looks simple. Underneath sits a huge range of business models, edge cases and markets around the world. Your job is to make all of that feel effortless.
You won't be one frontend engineer among many. The foundations are in place, but the component architecture, the design system and the SDK developer experience are still taking shape, and you'll have a big hand in where they go. Modern stack, no legacy.
Engineers here are hands-on with product from the start. You’ll work directly with our design partners and the founders, hearing first-hand from the Businesses using what we build, and you’ll have a real say in what gets built and in what order, from the roadmap through to the longer-term vision. The team is small and the problem matters deeply to us, so your judgement carries weight from the first week.
The challenges you'll take on
- Building the system, not just the screens.
A library of modular components versatile enough to support a huge range of business models, while still feeling intentional, trustworthy and polished out of the box.
- Code that runs inside someone else's app. Your code ships inside other companies' products, in front of millions of end users, and the developers integrating them are your direct customers. Bundle size, style isolation, theming, API design and lots of third-party integrations all become genuinely interesting problems. Think best-in-class embeddable SDK levels of craft.
- One component, many contexts. Full-page flows, contextual modals, inline prompts, or embedded deep in a host product's UI. Highly configurable without becoming inconsistent, and smart enough to show only what a user needs in that moment.
- Design decisions with measurable impact. What's selected by default, how options are ordered, when to explain the fine print. Every choice is tested against real user data, so your judgement connects directly to business outcomes.
- Making dense, high-stakes data easy to trust. Our customer portal is where teams configure their product, run experiments, review AI-proposed changes and see results in real time. Think experiment results with proper statistical context,
and change plans that show exactly who's affected before anyone commits.
- Interfaces nobody has designed yet. Natural-language configuration, where someone describes what they want in plain English and the UI has to make the resulting logic clear and trustworthy before a human approves it.
Ideal Skills
- 5+ years building production web applications, with deep TypeScript, Node and React experience.
- If you're newer in your career but have been doing big things, definitely still apply!
- You've built or owned a design system, component library or SDK that other developers rely on, and you're comfortable beyond the UI: performant JavaScript, abstractions, writing library code and integrating 3rd party providers.
- Strong product and UX instincts. You can push back on a design with good reasons and prototype a better one.
- Experience with data-dense interfaces, such as dashboards, data visualisation or complex multi-step forms.
- You care about performance, accessibility and responsive design, and can show how you've measured them.
- You enjoy experimentation: ship, measure, learn and iterate, rather than needing to get everything perfect first time.
Bonus Points
- Embeddable or third-party JavaScript (SDKs, web components, iframes, widgets).
- Checkout, payments or pricing UI experience.
- A background in growth, A/B testing or conversion optimisation.
What You Get
- Very competitive salary for a seed startup
- Meaningful equity
- Real ownership of the product
- Lunch stipend
