Gaming to build and improve the platforms that support hospitality venues across Australia.
We’re looking for an experienced Software Engineer for a 12-month role, working across backend services, APIs, integrations and modern web applications. You’ll have hands on ownership, a varied technology stack and the opportunity to influence how we build, test and deliver software.
The work
You’ll help design, develop and maintain software that powers our products, customer experiences and internal operations. Working closely with Product, QA and business stakeholders, you’ll turn practical requirements into secure, reliable solutions.
Our systems operate in a regulated environment, so performance, security and maintainability matter. If you enjoy understanding how a system works, finding what could work better and following improvements through to production, there’s plenty to get involved in.
You’ll
- Build and evolve backend services using C# / .NET (ASP.NET Core) and PHP (Laravel).
- Develop modern front-end experiences with React and Next.js.
- Design and deliver REST/gRPC APIs and integrations.
- Work with AWS infrastructure and optimise data in SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
- Strengthen automated unit and integration testing, CI/CD pipelines and release practices.
- Investigate production issues and improve observability, reliability and performance.
- Apply secure coding practices and contribute to compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with QA and external testing partners to deliver quality releases.
- Help improve engineering standards, documentation and the way we work.
What you’ll bring You’re a practical engineer who enjoys building software and improving existing systems. You think about how your code will behave in production, how it will be maintained and how it helps the people using it.
We’re looking for
- 5+ years’ experience building and operating production software in backend or full-stack roles.
- Strong C# / .NET experience.
- Experience with React, Next.js or a similar front-end framework.
- A solid track record delivering production APIs and services.
- Strong database skills using SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
- Exposure to AWS or Azure, CI/CD practices and Docker.
- An understanding of secure development, authentication and authorisation.
- Clear communication, sound problem-solving skills and experience working in cross-functional, agile teams.
- Experience with Kubernetes, Kafka/RabbitMQ, monitoring tools, or regulated and high-availability systems would also be welcome.
Why join Onyx? Joining our team means working on products used in real venues, with opportunities to contribute technical ideas and see the impact of your work.
We offer
- Competitive salary and benefits.
- Flexible working hours.
- A team-oriented, supportive team.
- Professional development through our learning and development program.
- An Employee Assistance Program to support your wellbeing.
- One paid Community Day each year to support a cause you care about.
- Barista coffee, quarterly celebrations and regular team events.
Interested?
We’d love to hear about the systems you’ve built, the problems you’ve solved and what you’d like to work on next. Apply with your CV and tell us a little about yourself. The successful applicant will be required to obtain a VGCCC Gaming Licence and/or OLGR Licence.
