About Morris Piper
Morris Piper works with organisations nationally across regional and remote Australia, providing expertise and resourcing into some of the most disadvantaged communities in the country. Our work covers everything from helping clients understand ‘why’, through strategic planning, project scoping, and securing government grant funding to deliver on a client’s vision.
Our clients include Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, health services, local governments and other community organisations. All our services stem from providing practical support to help clients and their community achieve what’s significant to them. We are not typical ‘suit & tie’ consultants – more red dirt and boots.
About the role
Morris Piper is seeking a Grant Writer to join our consulting team.
The Grant Writer will work closely with one Senior Consultant and assist with the research, development and preparation of grant applications for a portfolio of clients.
The role will suit someone with strong writing skills, sound professional judgement and an interest in regional development, government funding and community-focused projects.
Key responsibilities The Grant Writer will:
- Research funding opportunities, program guidelines and eligibility requirements.
- Draft clear and well-supported grant applications and funding briefs.
- Work with a Senior Consultant to develop project descriptions, responses to assessment criteria, budgets and supporting documents.
- Review client information,
identify gaps or risks, and undertake research where more evidence is needed.
- Proofread and quality-check applications for accuracy, consistency and compliance.
- Perform other duties as directed.
The role will also involve coordinating information from clients, preparing correspondence and other documents, maintaining project records, and managing multiple applications and deadlines.
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- Has strong written communication skills and can explain complex information clearly.
- Uses good judgement, thinks critically and pays attention to detail.
- Is organised and able to manage competing priorities and immovable deadlines.
- Can research unfamiliar topics and quickly understand a new project or funding program.
- Has an interest and/or lived experience in regional and remote Australia, community development, government programs or related work.
Experience and background
Previous grant-writing experience would be useful but is not essential. Relevant experience may come from consulting, communications, policy, government, community development, research, professional writing or project administration.
The role offers the opportunity to build practical experience in high-trust private sector consulting, government funding policy and programs, with the potential for domestic travel and development opportunities.
