About the role

Athena Search is seeking 1–2 Exploration Geologists to support a busy, growing gold exploration program.

This is a hands-on, generalist geology role offering variety across rig work and core shed activities. You’ll contribute to logging, sampling and geological interpretation, while coordinating the day-to-day work of field assistants and core technicians.

We’re looking for geologists who take ownership of their work, enjoy being involved in field operations and can keep activities moving with minimal supervision. You’ll need to be comfortable working at the rigs and in the core shed, adapting as drilling priorities and operational requirements change.

For someone with solid geological fundamentals and a proactive approach, this is an opportunity to broaden your technical experience and develop your people leadership skills within an active, multi-rig exploration program.

What you’ll be doing

- Undertaking rig-based geological work and supporting daily drilling activities.

- Completing core logging, sampling and geological interpretation.

- Providing clear direction to field assistants and core technicians, organising daily tasks and monitoring progress and work quality.

- Maintaining accurate geological records, sampling information and exploration data.

- Communicating regularly with drill crews, geologists and technical teams.

- Identifying issues early, following through on tasks and adapting to changing priorities.

- Promoting safe work practices and supporting effective exploration activities.

What we’re looking for

- Ideally 1–2 years of practical exploration geology experience, preferably within gold exploration.

- Practical experience in rig work and/or core logging,

with the willingness and capability to work across both.

- A self-sufficient, diligent and proactive approach. Someone who plans their work, pays attention to detail and follows tasks through to completion.

- Good people leadership skills, including the ability to organise workloads, communicate expectations and work constructively with field assistants and core technicians.

- Sound geological fundamentals, competency with geological software and confidence interpreting geological data.

- A positive attitude, practical problem-solving skills and a genuine interest in developing an exploration geology career.

We also welcome applications from junior geologists with relevant field or core yard experience, including those who worked as core technicians while completing their degree. You should be able to demonstrate practical capability, initiative and readiness to take on responsibility.

Essential requirements

- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related discipline.

- Valid Australian driver’s licence.

- First Aid training and 4WD driving experience.

- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical and drug and alcohol screening.

- Current National Police Check, or willingness to obtain one.

- Full Australian working rights.

An LR licence or forklift ticket will be advantageous.

What’s on offer

- $60 per hour + superannuation, with up to 11 paid hours per day.

- A 2:1 FIFO roster from Perth, with flights, accommodation and meals provided.

- Long-term ongoing work within a growing gold exploration program.

- Varied experience across rig work and core shed operations.

- Opportunities to strengthen your technical judgement and people leadership skills while working alongside experienced geologists.

- A full high-quality Athena Search work kit, including custom-branded gear.

- Athena Search-sponsored team events to celebrate achievements and enjoy time together outside of work.
