Rydalmere

ELQUIP

Elquip is an Australian equipment design and manufacturing company based in Rydalmere, Western Sydney. From our Rydalmere workshop we design and build our own range of equipment for underground mining and tunnelling. This includes shotcrete machines and sprayers, concrete and shotcrete pumps, mixer and concrete trucks, emulsion and ANFO charging units, and battery-electric service trucks. We also supply, customise and support PAUS and ITC SA underground equipment, and offer equipment hire.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our small engineering team in Rydalmere.

POSITION OVERVIEW The Mechanical Engineer will take Elquip’s equipment from customer requirement to finished machine. The role covers designing new units and modifications, producing the drawing packages our fabricators and fitters build from, and supporting testing, commissioning and customers on site. The role works closely with our factory manager, electrical engineering technicians and workshop staff.

KEY DUTIES

- Design and develop mobile, skid-mounted and trailer-mounted equipment for underground mining and tunnelling, including shotcrete booms and sprayers, concrete pumps, mixer bodies, charging units and service vehicle bodies.
- Produce 3D models, general arrangement drawings and detailed fabrication drawings for welded steel structures, frames, booms, tanks and hoppers, and prepare bills of materials for the workshop.
- Design hydraulic and pneumatic circuits for pumping, boom and drive functions, and size and select pumps, valves, cylinders, motors and hoses.
- Carry out structural,

load and stability calculations, including FEA where required, for frames, booms, lifting points and mounting structures.
- Modify and customise recent and imported equipment to suit each mine or tunnel site’s specifications, including guarding, access, fire suppression, lighting and site-specific attachments.
- Ensure designs meet the NSW Mining Design Guidelines (e.g. MDG 15 for mobile plant and MDG 41 for fluid power), AS 4024 machinery safety and WHS (Mines) requirements.
- Prepare design risk assessments and compliance documentation.
- Support fabrication, assembly, function testing and commissioning in the Rydalmere workshop, and resolve build issues with the workshop team.
- Visit customer mine and tunnel sites to gather requirements, commission equipment and investigate field failures, and turn the findings into design improvements.
- Prepare parts lists and technical specifications, and provide cost and technical input for customer quotations.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification (essential).
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Mechanical Engineer in the design of mobile,

heavy or industrial equipment (essential).
- Experience with underground mining or tunnelling equipment, such as shotcrete, concrete pumping, explosive charging or underground service vehicles (essential).
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor) and in preparing fabrication drawings to AS 1100 (essential).
- Experience in hydraulic system design and component selection (highly desirable).
- Working knowledge of MDG 15, MDG 41, AS 4024 and WHS (Mines) requirements (highly desirable).
- Understanding of welded steel fabrication, steel grades and manufacturing methods.
- Exposure to battery-electric vehicles or drive systems (desirable).
- Construction Induction (White Card) (essential).
- Ability to explain technical matters clearly to customers, site personnel, workshop staff and suppliers, and to write clear reports and manuals.
- Ability to work hands-on alongside fabricators, fitters and electrical technicians in a small team, and to manage your own design tasks to deadlines.
- Willingness to travel to customer mine and tunnel sites when required.

WHAT WE OFFER

- Full-time role with an established Australian equipment design and manufacturing company.
- Competitive salary plus superannuation.
- The chance to see your designs built in our own workshop and working on mine and tunnel sites.
- A small, experienced team where you work across the full product cycle, from concept to commissioning.

Pay: $80,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
