About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Mechanical Maintenance Fitter to join our maintenance team at our Edinburgh North manufacturing facility.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for undertaking preventative, corrective and breakdown maintenance across a range of manufacturing plant, machinery and equipment.

This is a hands-on role requiring robust mechanical aptitude, fault-finding and problem-solving skills, with a focus on maintaining plant reliability, minimising production downtime and supporting continuous improvement.

We are looking for tradespeople who take pride in their work, demonstrate a proactive approach to maintenance and are committed to working safely in a busy manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Undertake scheduled preventative, corrective and breakdown maintenance on manufacturing plant, machinery and equipment.

- Diagnose mechanical faults, identify root causes and undertake effective repairs to minimise production downtime.

- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and urgent maintenance requirements.

- Inspect, maintain, repair and replace mechanical components, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

- Undertake machinery installations, modifications and upgrades as required.

- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, performance and operational efficiency.

- Work collaboratively with production supervisors, operators and other maintenance personnel to coordinate maintenance activities and minimise disruption to production.

- Complete maintenance records, work orders and associated documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

- Ensure maintenance activities comply with relevant legislation, Australian Standards, safe work procedures and company requirements.

- Actively contribute to a positive safety culture through hazard identification, risk assessment and safe work practices.

About You To be successful in this role, you will have:

- A recognised Australian Mechanical Fitting trade qualification (or an equivalent recognised qualification).

- Demonstrated experience in mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing, heavy engineering or industrial environment.

- Strong mechanical fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

- Experience maintaining and repairing industrial machinery, plant and mechanical equipment.

- The ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics and technical documentation.

- Sound knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

- A proactive approach to preventative maintenance and equipment reliability.

- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing maintenance priorities.

- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

- A demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety, quality workmanship and continuous improvement.

Due to the nature of some of our Defence-related projects, applicants must:
- Be eligible to obtain and maintain the required Australian Government Security Clearance.

- Meet applicable Defence industry and export-control requirements.

- Be willing to undergo relevant security and background checks.

- Understand that Australian citizenship may be required for certain projects and security clearances.

Desirable experience:

- A Restricted Electrical License (B Class) will be highly regarded.

- Experience with CNC machinery, robotics or automated manufacturing equipment.

- Experience maintaining heavy fabrication and machining equipment.

- Experience with planned maintenance systems and maintenance documentation.

- Forklift, elevated work platform or other relevant high-risk work licenses.

Why Join Century Engineering?

- Join an established South Australian engineering and manufacturing business.

- Work with a diverse range of industrial plant, machinery and equipment.

- Be part of a supportive and experienced maintenance and production team.

- Opportunity to contribute to equipment reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.

- Work in a business supporting major Australian mining, infrastructure and defence projects.

- Competitive remuneration based on qualifications and experience.
